Checkout staff who pick up multipacks by the wrap

Whether it is a multipack of beans / dog food / soft drinks / 3l bottles of Buckfast - why TF would you pick it up by the wrap to scan it? The very material that holds the items together to create the multipack - don’t compromise it!

Every time they do this I state loudly “WELL THATS THAT FUCKED THEN YOU FANNY” *

Cant get the staff these days etc.

* inside my head #

# I may have asked them to replace flat packs of soft drinks a few times as “I didn’t notice the shrink wrap was all stretched and cans are now falling out”

Sounds like you started a little early this morning in those multipacks of Buckfast...

Me - Loads shopping to scanned, roughly by weight - heaviest, cans etc first etc.

Checkout person - Picks up and scans Peppers, Broccoli, bread, bread rolls, eggs, poppadom's, then hands me multipack tins of tomatoes, 4 pack of beer and a 2l of Coke Zero.

Opposite Rich - I ran out around 08:30 this morning and, well, this is what happens.

You guys need to start using the self scan systems. They're awesome, no need to even interact with the spotty teenagers on the tills and you pack your bags straight from the shelves.

Probably right Rich...

Although I "Click and Collect" from Sainsburys for the big shop - this is mainly at the co-op when picking up odds and sods...

I use self serve and try and avoid those multipacks because of the plastic, no idea what you're talking about Mik

Nor me - surely if you don't use the multipack wrapping to pick it up, you compromise the integrity further by just grabbing one item inside it? That is the purpose of the multipack wrapper...

Try picking this up by grabbing one of the cans at the end.

A regionally appropriate example. This needs to be picked up by getting your hands under the (fucking) cardboard base layer (yc).

I'd 100% grab that by the plastic.

As a kid I’d go and poke holes between the cans in the plastic packaging. Haven’t done it for a good 18 months now though.

I use this all the time at the local Sainsburys and so far have only been stopped twice by a bemused security guard saying "are you going to pay for that?".

Keeps interaction to an absolute minimum.

I once saw a middle aged couple shopping with that self scanning thing, using colour coded bags that hung on off the top rails of the trolley. The nerdy-ness of them impressed me.

I never buy more than 6 things; never more than I can carry. Otherwise I end up buying whatever fancy wine is "on offer" (yet still >£15/bottle).

Why are you getting those out of your trolley? Get them to use their hand scanner on it instead. Or are you thinking you might accidentally do a Madeley?
