Always eloquent in his post Apollo interviews and did have an amazing life.
Most are unaware that he was the astronaut charged with overseeing the development of the spacesuits used in the Apollo program and that they've just been modified versions of that design used by NASA ever since.
Also he was director of the Smithsonian for a while as well

Amen - certainly the most articulate and interesting of the Apollo 11 astronauts. "Carrying The Fire" is, I think, the best book to come out of the 1960s NASA space programme.

I saw a quote, attributed to him today. He, Buzz and Neil were discussing what Neil should say when he set foot upon the moon. Michael apparently said "If you had any balls you would scream "Argh what's that" scream then cut the mic.
What a full and fantastic life he lived.
