Does McLaren Really Have Too Many Models?

In response to the Doug DeMuro video, I put together an article looking at the facts on if McLaren has produced too many models.

I think the challenge for them is that every model since the F1 is based on the same engine/gearbox/layout/chassis. So unlike Ferrari, Aston and others, everyone can say “ah X is essentially just Y with a remap / different dress / fancy dampers” with some level of factual correctness.

It’s actually a number of different tubs.

Extension of the "Why build so many specials?" topic.
What a delicate balancing act for any manufacturer of something that has value as both an object and as investment arbitrating the customer sets of "True fans", "Rational fans", "Long term investors" and "Speculators".
When esteemed companies like Porsche and Lego get it wrong, does anyone actually consistently get it right? Is that even possible?
