Blissful Ignorance

What things have you found out about randomly one day having previously lived a life of blissful ignorance and really wish you could then unlearn??

I had a good one today - the little orange spots on my car which I'd previously thought were pollen (half right) are actually liquidfied nectar... from the anus... of a bee, i.e. bee turds.

Even better than that, apparently they may also be bee diarrhoea as they get infected with some sort of parasite. Sometimes they seem to be twice the length of a bee so its the equivalent of a 12 foot human shit. Nice. :?

Make sure you get it off ASAP as once it hardens it will destroy the paint.

It's worse than bird shit, a lot worse, will eat through clear coat within a month.

I heard that it wasn't as bad as was not as acidic as bird poo? It doesn't seem to have left any lasting marks and I've noticed it particularly since we moved to this house (so the last 3 years).

It is sticky and annoying to remove, however.

Well 2 years or so ago I discovered I was half English. I like the English, but to find out I was a half one came as a genuine shock after40+ years of being Scottish.

On a lighter note my son at age 9 found out that the word is cuddle, not in fact cuggle. His sister, when she was very small pronounced it cuggle and it stuck. I guess cuddle is not a word he had read or seen written so had, perfectly reasonably, assumed it to be the genuine word.

I've spent about a year looking at damage caused by it, its worse when it's summer, the heat seems to activate it and burn it into the paint.

It's nasty stuff.

Hmm yes I'd rather not have known that but then again I'm sure the plane is an autopilot flying itself for the majority of the flight.

See also “tree sap” on cars. Trees don’t drip sap unless they’re healing from a cut or a gash and even then it’s usually on the trunk. That stuff stuck to your car after you park under a tree is shit from aphids who are sucking the juices out the tree and pooping it down below. If you spend extra time looking at a smaller tree you will see a colony of ants stimulating said aphids and giving them orgasms so that they milk even more of the yellow nectar.

So what you're saying is that tree sap damage is actually the sticky fallout from cross species sexual exploitation?

Yes, someone call Peter, or is it PETA.

https://www.thoughtco.com/aphid-herding-ants-1968237

"As most people know, where there is sugar, there is bound to be ants. Some ants are so hungry for the aphid honeydew, that they will "milk" the aphids to make them excrete the sugary substance. The ants stroke the aphids with their antennae, stimulating them to release the honeydew. Some aphid species have lost the ability to excrete waste on their own and depend entirely on caretaker ants to milk them"

Sounds like the backstory to some dodgy Eastern European porn.

This sexy little microscopic fucker is Demodex folliculorum, more commonly known as an eyelash mite, and there’s a good chance there’s a handful of these buggers chowing down on your dead skin and oils on your face right now

TBH, there isn't an inch of you that doesn't have some kind of micro organism living on it. Most are benign and you'd know it if you had one of the ones that weren't
