Not registered for road use and uncertainty around the build date. This IMO puts it on a Q plate and makes it roughly 8 million percent less desirable.

No otherwise a significant portion of newish BMWs would be on a Q plate

Actually, without a chassis number can it even be registered as a cosworth? It could just be an early 3 door shell fitted with cosworth bits?

Worth plenty in parts, and probably more as an unregistered display piece than on a Q.

Q plates were for cars rebuilt cars with change of chassis

Given the Brodie connection it's likely to have been built using a spare Motorsport Chassis when they had moved on to Sapphire's.

Lots of Rally cars were built the same and registered at the time so can't see it being a big issue registering it.

I first saw this mentioned last week - assumed it was just an unusual colour. And not in a good way.

Interesting car and the Cossie-blerk analysis was good. I expect Dave Brodie knows rather more about cosies than me, and guess he knew he wouldn’t be chasing 550bhp so went for the smaller turbo for response, and 4wd for all-weather useability? Fascinating regardless, but a q-plate would be a real shame. (Can you out a private plate on a q-plate car?)

The lack of paperwork means it could easily be a second hand 3dr Sierra with a rusty Sapphire Cosworth’s mechanicals underneath. Possibly a burgundy metallic Sapphire, hence the colour.

I don’t understand the condition and the recent owner tuning it when it’s never been registered for the road. I don’t understand building it and then not registering it in the first place. Surely it was built to be used? There’s definitely a back story here.

I thought we'd established the story? It's a motorsport shell built up by BBR with a load of RS500 parts.

The photos show a Ford Motorsport Chassis plate.

My mate had an Escort Cosworth built on a Motorsport shell from new(ish) bits in the mid 90s by a rally prep business. He moved it on after a month or so as it was nowhere near as refined as a proper road built car.

He is a car dealer and wasn't put off by the history and retailed it on easily.

There will be dozens if not hundreds of ex Motorsport shell cars out there that are legitimate it's a shame this car (if it is legit) doesn't have any paperwork from Brodie or BBR to support its build.

Surely if it’s not an original car and has no real provenance you’d want to just register it (I assume you could get an sva and an age related plate and not a q) and use the damn thing?
