What they said. I knew about Eddie, but hadn't remembered how he'd injured himself. My brain told me it was the Great Wall jump that did him in. Very surprised to learn it was such a silly, avoidable way. Landing up hill, or 'casing it' is the one thing I was taught to avoid at all costs during my motocross days. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I'm guessing if that way didn't get him, another way would have. Seemed inevitable sadly. Great TV though.

I'm sure you're right - I don't think he would have been capable of simply retiring.

I just got the impression that him and Knievel didn't have a true understanding of the bike. To me, they didn't look comfortable in flight, more like they just sent it and hung on. It served them well to a point, and they deserved every accolade and prize for doing so. Maybe that's the reason they excelled. Had they truly realised the dangers and chance of failure, they wouldn't have even tried!

I'm find it equally fascinating and terrifying how these sorts of people live(d) their lives - Jeb Corliss, Philippe Petit, and to a slightly lesser extent, the likes of Alex Honnold, Garrett McNamara etc.

The unavoidable compulsion to take these sorts of massive risks is incredible to me.

Those bikes don't look comfortable in the air, but how much of that is the bike design compared to modern designs.

I enjoyed the Kidd feature, but was already fully aware of what had happened. Tbh I found McGuinness wholely unconvincing in terms of sincerity during that piece, probably down to the fact that he was at 150%. If he'd dialled himself back a bit it would have been much better. He's becoming an ever more ridiculous caricature of a Northerner.

Regarding Kidd and the accident - I do wonder whether he had a feeling of invincibility by that stage. Eval had had a few accidents, and notably retired before any especially bad ones. Had Kidd had a few incidents by that stage I wonder whether he would have gone through with the jump.

For me it was the first time thinking Paddy wasn't a caricature.

Either way if you'd told me last year new new Topgear would producing a sensitive, high quality, moving story on someone with a brain injury I would have scoffed.

This - I know he was excited but at times, it was over the top. Still a great feature though

He also seemed to know Eddie's Care Worker based on the greeting... :?:

I think Paddy was just being Paddy, I don’t think he was over the top at all. I thought Kidd was ‘just’ paralysed, I didn’t know he had a brain injury too.

My uncle is mates with him. This was his birthday party last year. Yes, that is Nasty Nicky in the background 😂

Lambo looks awful.

It does however sound fantastic. And appears to be rather jolly on track.

You don't have to have all the garish graphics and contrasting paint on it. Enjoyed that segment - the rest was absolute pish.

I do wonder what Harris thinks about some of the stuff he's asked to do.

I think it would look quite good all in one colour but I've never been much of a fan of the current generation of Lambos. In fact the only one I've really liked these past 20 years has been the Murci.

He's probably enjoying all the cocking about and laughing
a lot with those two clowns. All the while getting paid a tidy sum and driving around in some decent motors.

exactly - I bet taking part in 99% of these "awful to watch" segments are better than most people best ever day at work.
