@Coaster1 and I are/were booked on one in a couple of weeks, and I just got a letter from some solicitor about liquidation proceedings.

Sad times, it was really enjoyable last time I did it, and I'm guessing I'm unlikely to see my money back @Jobbo @GG.?

I paid by credit card, so I wonder if I could recover the money that way...

I would agree that a claim to your credit card company is very likely the best route.

You could write back to the solicitor and/or liquidator if the name was disclosed to you and make explicit your claim for a refund. That way they would be aware of the existence and amount of the claim (though may be already given you got a letter - you didn't note precisely what it said). You would only be an unsecured creditor of the business (assuming their t's and c's didn't rule out refunds for cancelled days, etc.) and so not likely to recover much if anything but if there is a pot left over you could get a few pennies in the pound out of the proceeds of liquidation earmarked for the unsecureds.

Generally not worth putting in much effort unless they owe you a large amount of money as the likelihood of getting much is small. Particularly in this case as its hard to see what tangible assets they would have to liquidate.

They certainly used to have quite a lot of cars worth a few quid, but no idea if that's the case anymore.

The letter just asks if I agree to the appointment of some named Licensed Insolvency Practitioners, and that if I do I don't have to do anything.

Get onto your credit card company - they are jointly liable and will refund you (eventually). They can worry about getting paid out 1p in the £ by the liquidators.

Shame though, I did a Walshy day back in 2003/4ish at a very wet North Weald. IIRC, V8_Chris, Hardboiled_Phil and dboyXR2i were with me.

Ah, that's a shame, I only did their group activity days but sliding around that runway was always great fun. I'm sure he'll be back doing it in some form. Hope you both get your money back.

Someone on SELOC who had the same problem and managed to get hold of him messaged me and said that they'd agreed that getting a refund through the credit card company was the best option. So I guess I'll go with that.

Different day - there were only the 4 of us. It absolutely pissed down and I discovered my Elise roof leaked a lot Phil's Boxster seemed very unperturbed by the conditions.

It's something of a relief to know that the creeping senility hasn't fully taken over yet!

Don't know if Andy is involved at all, when I did it before Andy was injured and couldn't really get in the cars so Mark did most of the training and I thought he was really good, so it should still be a great day.

I think I’ll book one of these to see how far I can push the chimaera in controlled conditions. Got to get it sorted first though.

holy thread resurrection!

i did 4 person instruction day yesterday in the Elise. I’d previously done a 12 person play day with Duncs, this was a similar format, but with 4 people and far more physical “1 on 1” coaching.

There was a young chap in a Boxster (bought it when he was 17 and had it 3 years), a guy with a 992.2 GT3 and a guy who’d just got an M2. The porsches had both done AW days before, the M2 driver was very inexperienced.



The day started with a few basic exercises to gauge experience/ability then onto the high-speed corner. Last time I’d managed about 65-70mph with plenty of spinning – mainly caused by holding the wheel too tight. With Andy in the car, I got used to effectively only using my left thumb to push down on the left wheel spoke rather than gripping hard with both hands and trying to fight the oversteer/understeer. Then we did heavy braking through the corner at 80+mph, which gave me a load more confidence of the higher entry speed. Coupled with what I’d got from the earlier tuition on steering, it had me doing the high-speed corner at a fairly consistent 75ish mph with far less drama.

Then there was a variety of useful exercises like throttle control (set the steering wheel position and just use small throttle inputs to increase/decrease the circle), hand positioning whilst winding on/off lock, slip angles, etc…

Unfortunately, the driving in circles took its toll on the group. The M2 guy got bad motion sickness and had to sit out for a while and it was the final straw for the GT3’s rear tyres which were beginning to delaminate on the inside edge.

So we were effectively down to 2 of us for the circuit driving, which was awesome fun. Andy came out and did a quick assessment of my lines/etc before showing me the correct ones driving my car - Holy fuck can that man drive! We swapped back and we improved my lines/exit speeds and then we had the best part of 1.5 hours to take turns ragging it round the mini-circuit. We spent most of this sat in the passenger seats of each other’s cars doing 5-6 laps each time whilst Andy watched and gave us feedback when we came back in to change over.

It was great to have these slightly longer runs (usually it’s 3 laps and in) to really focus on improving a specific input/corner/approach without feeling it’s taken your whole go up. We both still had plenty of spins, but all the time understanding why we’d spun and what we could do to improve.

Overall, a great day out - I’d happily do another.

So overall, a new-ish GT3 and M2 aren't great for track work but older Elises and Boxsters are? Possibly not a surprise but how amusing

I’m not sure how much blame could be apportioned to the cars - the GT3 had old tyres and the M2 driver was way out of his depth!

My elise is very firmly at home on the track though - the drive home on the M25 was far from its happy place!
