Elise, Exige & Evora

Post by mik »

All being killed off this year apparently.
RIP.

New range will be the type 131 (for which info is very scarce), the Evija (and possibly a 4x4 that has been talked about for a very long time....)

Isn't that, like, their entire model range?

With nothing to replace them (yet, and given Lotus' recent history.....)

It's 21 years since I had my last Lotus, but for some reason this makes me rather sad...

Risky, the Evija is extremely limited so can't run a business. The 4x4 market is so diluted now that it's not a guaranteed success - see Aston Martin. Which leaves the type 131 whatever that is.

Lotus is the Elise, why can that?!
How about not having a sig at all?

They were telling their dealer network last year that the current range of cars will be the last ICE cars they produce. It's a very bold move to ditch all the ICE and move forward on all electric in the sportscar market.

R.I.P Lotus i fear.

Good news for residuals though, I'd guess.

I think it may already be ICE

“ It will sit on an aluminium platform and be powered by a new family of engines – not Lotus developed, but not related to the current Toyota units either – that will be available in more than one state of tune”

Hmmm. They're all 4-cyls in various states of tune with turbo and/or supercharger strapped to them. The Polestar restomod P1800 which has been doing the rounds seems to be quite well-liked but I suspect the engine in that would be prohibitively expensive. I can't say that the turbo and supercharged one in my V90 was terribly exciting; it was the one thing about the car which was a disappointment.

Maybe they will bring the 2.5 5-pot back for one final hurrah!

Lightweight Elise with the three banger Yaris GR unit would be epic.

You mustn’t be afraid to dream bigger. LFA V10 in Exige.

It'd be nice to go to the alternate timeline where Bahar didn't turn down that V10 for his Esprit revival.

Not exactly portly, but a series3 Elise is about 150kg heavier than the original cars.

That's ~20% heavier - though most of the weight was gained during the life of the S2.

Agree. It’s a hefty increase. My point was that - in isolation - you are unlikely to refer to an S2/3 as tubby.

Tubby indeed - I was surprised that an Evora was heavier than a Golf.
