The Music Thread
I figured we have movie and TV threads so we should probably have a music thread.
I’ll kick off with Gaz Coombes’ (former Supergrass frontman) new album World’s Strongest Man. He’s clearly been listening to a lot of Radiohead but still manages to feel upbeat and bouncy like the best Supergrass stuff.

Music is still being made? I haven't updated the iPod (yes really) in the car for 11 years.

More than ever. Plenty of great stuff out there, away from Radio 1. [/old man]

This thread might not be for you. Actually the first couple of albums are good, before everything they did tried to be anthemic.

Re: The Music Thread
The new J Cole album is amazing, I’ve been listening to Cardi B’s album a lot as well.
An absolute unit

I can't listen to it but imagine coming up with that at their age.

Re: The Music Thread
Given the age profile of this forum, I’m going to recommend The War on Drugs. They’re like a modern day cross between Dire Straits, Neil Young, Springsteen and Fleetwood Mac type of thing. One Youtube comment derided them as “sad dad rock” which is as accurate as it is mean
Check them out if you like songs with a proper middle eight guitar solo (played on a Gretsch White Falcon more often than not).
The drummer looks like he’s lost this particular war.

I’ve not really been able to get into the new War on Drugs. Lost in the dream and Slave Ambient are both great though.
It’s been out for a wee while but the last Arcade Fire album was ace.

Re: The Music Thread
Random one but I’ve been listening to the sound track to Walter Mitty a lot lately
Re: The Music Thread
Signed up to Tidal so have been exploring various new music recently.
Black Stone Cherry - Family Tree is retro but good fun southern rock and roll. I had it on in the car the other day and the two year old started headbanging. There's no hope for him
As far as something a bit cooler but still R&B/rock, today's discovery has been Lake Street Dive - Free Yourself Up. Worth a listen.

BTW, I'm still recording Essential Mixes, I'm up to 660 of them now
Re: The Music Thread
I listened to the first half of it last night and would say that critique is 100% accurate.NotoriousREV wrote: ↑Fri May 11, 2018 5:25 amIs that the one where he finally disappears up his own rectum?
Re: The Music Thread
They are a truly appalling band.
I was in a shitty mood this morning so put Beyond by Dinosaur Jr on for the train to work. I defy anybody to hear the intro to almost ready and not start smiling.

On this we can agree.
Semi-related, I’ve got tickets for Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks later this year.
