@Gavster
Have you listened to Kneecap’s album. It’s pretty decent.

I've not, I'll check it out later
Re: The Music Thread
The rise in Kneecap's popularity is being fuelled buy a rise in Nationalistic and Republican attitudes in Ireland, which is, in turn, being fuelled by the rise in Immigration. (Like a lot of things, Ireland tracks 10 or 15 years behind the UK and is now seeing attitudes filtering up to the national level).
Sinn Fein - let's not forget, the IRA's political arm - polled very strongly in the recent General Election.
I, for one, won't be listening or supporting them at all. File them away alongside Connor McGregor in the cupboard marked "National Embarrassments"

Re: The Music Thread
Painting Kneecap to be the same as the headbangers protesting against immigration is pretty disingenuous Dinny. Aye, they’re republican but I’ve not seen anything to suggest they’re racist.
Their republicanism seems to come from a sincere want for a united Ireland. Which is a valid political opinion imo.

I never said they were Zed.ZedLeg wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 9:55 am Painting Kneecap to be the same as the headbangers protesting against immigration is pretty disingenuous Dinny. Aye, they’re republican but I’ve not seen anything to suggest they’re racist.

An Irish band, from the North, who were Ski Masks and name themselves after the practice of putting a gun to the back of the victims knee and blow the knee cap out just isn’t right IMO
Re: The Music Thread
You exactly related them to racist protests being organised by the far right.
The rest is just opinion. Their image is pretty much just punk expression.

I didn't really Zed - I said their popularity is fuelled by rising Nationalism in Ireland. I didn't say they're popularity was being drive by racist views on Immigration. I don't know how Kneecap feel about immigration.
But given their public persona, I'd say they have no problem at all with immigration into Ireland - So long as your Catholic...
At the risk of sounding snowflake, their name and aspects of public image are triggering for an Irish Person and hark back to a time we all do not want to return to.
But it's a free world so by all means, you fill your boots with Kneecap. It's just I wont...

I think you should probably look at what they stand for before jumping to reactionary pearl clutching but you do you buddy.dinny_g wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 2:14 pm I didn't really Zed - I said their popularity is fuelled by rising Nationalism in Ireland. Fair enough - I've read this article from the Guardian.

I now want even less to do with them.
