So now I really want another MR2. Nephew is learning to drive and I can foresee track days coming on...

My Dad bought a MK3 this year. They're great!

I know, I owned one about 10 years ago. Be any, it would be a toy for me but nice to share with him when he passes his test.

One of the great unsung heroes of the last twenty years IMO. LSD as standard, 900ish kg, not particularly compromised and very reliable. Still cheap now for some reason, a cut price Elise. Loved mine.

Insuring a new driver on an MR2 would be fun!

How come they're so slow? Almost 8 seconds to 60?!

Compared to an Elise, it's not that light... VVTI 190bhp engine goes in though Rich:

The old "just swap the engine" routine again.

I have no idea how you fit in one, Chris! I don't fit and I'm only 6'2".

They really are good! Not fast but carry speed brilliantly on British B roads. A really fun car that can be enjoyed regularly without too much risk of massive off or trouble with the dibble.

If it happens he won't be driving it on the road, just tracks.

Not that I’m aware of.

Rear subframes rot for fun and various issues with burning oil and ingesting cats. Can’t remember, might have been solved on the later cars. Don’t they take weird size tyres too?

They did have an issue with the engines sucking in bits if disintegrated cat but I think it was fixed on the facelift cars. Can’t remember about the tyres, I think I put Toyos Proxes on mine.
