Shame it doesn't come as an estate, but also a shame it doesn't come as an M550d Touring.
Audi will no doubt flip back to petrol at some point in the next few weeks so there's bound to be an S6 which competes directly before long. I still prefer the last (C7 shape) A6 though, and if it wasn't for the miles I do a previous shape S6 Avant would be so high up my want list.

0-62 in 3.8secs in a 5 series that isn’t an M5!

Also nearly £72k for a 5 series that isn’t a M5

A new m3/4 with a couple of options is £100k, what will the next m5 be?, £110? £120?

? Do you know something or is that tongue in cheek?

Just a joke, though it’ll probably come true. The SQ5 went from diesel to petrol and now back to diesel, the SQ7 went from diesel to petrol... it’s inevitable!

Weakens the case for the M5. Given the performance of the M550 is there really any need to spend a further £20k for a base M5?

I have to say that despite the fact it's a touch slower and less dynamic, I'd rather have a fully optioned E53 estate for similar money.
But that's not to say that it isn't nice to see a v8 in a non-M 5-series again.

Depends on the buyer. Is there any point on spending an extra £30k over a 520d when it already does over twice the legal speed limit?

There’s a bit more of a jump involved from 520d to M550 than M550 to M5.

Well you either want a M5 or you don’t generally.
A lightly used 550 would make for a great secondhand car in 8 years time for £10k though.

No different to doing a 328i sport and an m3 or 540i sport and an m5, or m340i and m3.
Ie they’ve been doing ‘sporty’ not quite M car models for decades.

This is my feelings in it. I want power and performance but I’m not about 295mm rear tyres and 2K for a pair of brake discs when most of its mileage is with family in tow and normal sheep’s about.
I’m not saying that this M550 won’t have silly tyres etc but it’s nice having more of a choice than the recent spate of 3.0 petrol or top of the range M car.

I'd rather have the M. Particularly if it has wide arches.

But you won’t get hero points on the internet for having a “sleeper” with a proper M car. Get a 550 debadged and you will have hundreds of people lining up to make love to you - albeit only middle aged men!

I have not seen this as yet. Is it because mine is a convertible?
