Well two days after the consultation meeting, I got a phone call to say I am going on the job retention scheme. :?

Looks like I need to work a few hours a week and get almost 80% although they are checking the details but sounds like my boss went to bat for me. I guess dragging myself to set up a trade show on the Sunday (which was a day after breaking my coccyx and splitting my cheek open) and generally knocking my pan in growing the business has actually paid off.

He did say I may be back in the same boat in March/April but it leaves me with some income in the short term while applying for other jobs as they come up.

Best of luck Rob, I had applied for various temp jobs from Dixons PCW to The Scottish Pensions Agency and an NHS Finance job, will just have to see how it all pans out over the next few months.

Oof!

Do the letters come pre-arranged by address from the sorting facility so you just walk down the road and deliver them in order or do you have to pre-arrange them?

So far the permies who know what's going on load the "frames" which are basically pigeonholes for every address in the village. That starts at stupid o'clock in the morning and is an astonishingly manual process. Then temps like me arrive 8ish and the route is ready for us to walk in a logical order, apart from the small parcels which you have to just remember.

Then once your route is done you're given a van and some of the random parcels that arrive during the day and you rely on their proprietary software to get you around.

That sounds nuts, I’d love to see the pigeon holes for a neighbourhood in London

Good to here you found something Rob- Question for you though- have you gone full noob and started off wearing trousers or gone for the seasoned professional shorts in all weathers?

All weather shorts is one of the bonus' as far as I'm concerned 8-) unfortunately temps don't get RM issue ones so I'll have to get my own when I get the chance.

Tomorrow's round in 9 degrees and rain promises to be challenging. Apparently last year's temp dropout rate for Xmas cover was 75%

As for tales and confessions.... well, see if I have any by the time January comes around. :P
