Redundancy
Re: Redundancy
It’s more comfortable and they aren’t fannies.

Yeah, I still wear the same shorts for riding this time of year as I do in the summer. It's a bit chilly for a few minutes at the beginning then all good.

A bike on top of a hill with the sun behind - the rider silhoueted.
Zoom to a shapely calf. Hairy but not excessively.
The rider sets off. Zoom to icey surface and tyre contact - music indicates the impossibility of traction via a sharp orchestral string crescendo...
Traction is no problem.
Calming tunes.
As the rider exits the shot, zoom to RichBShortz(TM) logo on his arse.
Deep tone VoiceoverGuy:

Re: Redundancy
One of the permies showed me a photo of him walking "my" route during The Beast from the East. Heavy snow everywhere, still in shorts. Bear in mind that's at least six hours out in the weather to walk that route. Mental.Explosive Newt wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 9:59 pmIncreasingly off topic but why do I see so many posties in shorts? It’s sodding freezing outside!
I previously considered myself fairly immune to cold but they take it to another level.
Re: Redundancy
I saw a postie locally with shorts on last week too, but I must admit if I'm walking a lot I'd prefer to wear shorts, and you don't really feel the cold until you stop. I tend to live in shorts most of the year, long pants just restrict movement
Re: Redundancy
What a week to finish being a Postie!
Back to being some sort of Imagineer from Monday, sitting at a desk for 40hours a week. In a nice warm cozy dry warm dry warm room.
I did genuinely get a great deal of satisfaction from delivering the mail, especially things that had been misaddressed. A bit of mental stimulation combined with doing a good deed for a stranger was a thoroughly nice feeling.
As I said it was a genuinely positive experience by in large, almost everyone is happy to see you, outside walking all day and a job that is complete at the end of each day.
All it takes is a tolerance of extreme physical discomfort, relentless movement, occasional canine assault, low pay and a strong bladder.

Nice one.
Great to have been a postie.
Great to finish being a postie.
Well done.

Re: Redundancy
Postie statistical observations.
The prospect of data mining everything you can observe or sumise from daily deliveries spanning months is frankly terrifying.
But I'll stick to Evo related and general data.
Out of 480 village address' on my daily route.
ONE. Evo subscription.
Three Octanes
Half a dozen of Motorsport, Autoexpress and Topgear.
A fuckload of National Trust mags (that was a hell of a load)
2 houses that refused to take another's parcels.
3 people rude enough to be memorable.
20 houses giving a Christmas tip or gift.
1 unironic round of applause, it was rather touching.
4 Boxsters
1 Cayman
1 997
1 R35 GTR
1 2CV
1 modern M5
4 Teslas
2 Golf R
1 Shed collector with a half dozen assorted pieces of automotive carbage.

Re: Redundancy
Thanks, out of all the stop gap jobs I could've had I think I was damn lucky to be with Royal Mail.
I've had bit of a revelation about how nice most people are.
Oh and the opportunity to drive around the countryside when doing OT parcels was great too, roads are so quiet!
Got to see a couple of very fancy manors too, one had a genuine moat!
Re: Redundancy
Nice one Rob and congratulations on your new job!
Re: Redundancy
Congrats on the job Rob. Sounds like an experience that will stick with you, so that's good.

Re: Redundancy
I assume for the unironic round of applause you took a knee and thoroughly hammed it up?
