At least you have time to start looking. I’m in the same situation, the prison where I work is going from a Cat C back to a Cat B and it will make my job almost impossible, as we’re a separate contractor they’ll soon cancel the contract.

Two years of funding left in my current job. Applied for another in Glasgow. But from speaking to others up there, it wasn't really going to be a good fit for me so eventually I dropped out. Interestingly, it turns out the other front runner candidate dropped out too and the job went to their third choice.

Applied for a stretch role, but didn't get it. One last option internally, but looking outside also. Have had my outcome letter, if nothing changes I'll be out by the end of October which gives me two months with full pay to find a new job.

I'm feeling frustrated right now. Need to be patient, but kind of at the "just rip the plaster off" stage of wanting to get on with it.

check - IME that two months will pay may be tax free. Makes a big difference to what arrives in your bank…

When I was made redundant I got my notice period pay and the same again tax free as a redundancy payment.

Payment in lieu of notice isn’t redundancy payment. would you be expected to “work” your notice?

No, they've offered to release me early as there's no reason to keep me on once I've handed over the things I'm working on. I've already planned my handover and it can be done in two weeks.

My manager is trying everything he can to make it as easy as possible.

Why would payment in lieu of notice be tax free? Redundancy Payments are tax free, but afaia pilon is just treated as salary.

Im just reading up - i’ve had PILON before, at a company that i’d only been at <6 months and it was tax free (it was a good chunk of my first house deposit). not sure now…
