Redundancy
Redundancy
Well had my first official redundancy consultation today. Nothing boss could really do given mostly I was selling touch screen visitor systems and large software platforms related to ID cards so not big sellers right now.
Still totally shit as not too many jobs around and the Borders is a particularly good area for vacancies, even at the best of times.
At least my better half is a teacher so stable employment, I really feel for anyone where both earners are facing redundancy.

Re: Redundancy
Sorry to hear that Gavin. There will be one hell of a lot of redundancies in the coming weeks and probably the worst job market of our lifetime for people to drop into.
I really feel for anyone this happens to. I have a couple of friends whom are going through it since the end of June. Tough times!

Re: Redundancy
Sorry to hear that Gavin, it really sucks just now and is only going to get worse unfortunately. I'm just trying to keep my head down and not think about that scenario occurring as I genuinely don't know what I'd do.
Cheers,
Mike.

Shit news Dadbo
You seem pretty adaptable though as I recall you've chosen different roles over the last few years ?

Re: Redundancy
Crap news. Hope you find something else soon. Maybe take the time to relax while the whole world falls apart. If you dont need the money why not.
Re: Redundancy
Awful situation, been through it 3 times. My last contract at a local college didn’t continue due to COVID. Fortunately managed to find a good job close to home that starts Monday. There are jobs out there, fingers crossed for you.

Shit.
Good luck finding something else Gav.

Re: Redundancy
Sad to hear that Gavin.
I've been made redundant twice now, it sucks.
it didn't hit for a while, and then I was very low (both times).
Work is such a huge part of our lives, especially if you enjoyed your job.
I found that I floundered about a bit, missed the routine and challenge.
Take care and I hope you find something soon...

Re: Redundancy
Friend of mine is a croupier/pit boss/general management at the main casino in Scarbs, they're talking about redundancies up there, and not just the wait and bar staff either
Re: Redundancy
Horrible situation to be in. You already know what needs to be done so crack on if needed and see where it takes you.
It’s something I hope to never experience.
Dave!

Re: Redundancy
Thanks everyone. I may go see if I can do some p/t shelf stacking or similar as a temp job over the festive period and hope that something more permanent and suitable pops up.
I was a glorified cleaner on night shifts in the local hotel for a year so that I could be at home with the kids when they were tiny so I won't be turning my nose up at much!

Re: Redundancy
Sorry to hear your bad news, in a similar situation myself.
OH is also a Teacher although on limited hours, reluctant to ask her to take more on because I keep thinking "Next month I might be back at work"
Applying for jobs in my trained field is depressing, might be one or two a week and that's looking at everything within 200miles.
Applying for fill in jobs... Well doing the Royal Mail Xmas delivery application was about 150pages so that was a major WTF.
Neighbour of mine is doing casual contract driving for BCA logistics, he recommended it but the terms and conditions are pretty crap on their application site and the reviews on Indeed are horrific.
Next week might be better. Amazon or apply for UC.

Re: Redundancy
Sorry to hear that Gavin and Rob.
While there's a lot of bad news out there currently, there are plenty of sectors which are growing. I don't necessarily recommend working as a final mile courier, but the whole logistics sector has had to grow this year as people switched en masse to shopping online so there may be something in that area which suits one or both of you. Good luck with finding something.

Re: Redundancy
That's sucks, Gav & Rob. Hope you both get something sorted soon.
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.
Re: Redundancy
What do supermarkets pay for xmas workers? Better than nowt and fills a gap. And yes I would do it myself
