I’ve seen it before but I’d always assumed it was the 6 cylinder version of the e-series designed for the maxi, but obviously not if it’s still only 1300cc. Weird that they’d even bother when they already had a 1275 4 cylinder a-series
I have found some more on the 9X (which was Issigonis's alternative proposal for a Mini replacement, not the engine's name) and its engines at the usual resource: https://www.aronline.co.uk/concepts-and ... ts-bmc-9x/
That refers to the 6-cyl engine variant being intended for the Austin 1100/1300 replacement. The Metro with it in is mentioned briefly. I have found a photo of the Metro with the bonnet up though:

Pretty decent cars for their time let down for the first 10 years by awful wheezy ancient engines ( unless you spend a ton of money on them ) and four speed gearbox.
And should have been killed off in 93/4 when the modern wave of superminis started to appear instead of the r100 facelift which made it a bit of a laughing stock.

A 1275cc 6-hooter seems a bit silly?
I have subsequently remembered the 6-cylinder Honda CBX..:

There are a few 6cyl bike engines. Apparently Benelli did one at 750cc, which does seem a bit silly tbh.

Any excuse to share 250cc Honda 6cyl and a 5cyl 125cc
