My current card is a 1070 and it's very good, can still play most current stuff at very high settings in 1080 but it's about time I got some use out of my 4K monitor.

As for prices dropping I did think that crypto going to hell would help free up supply. I guess if there's no war in Taiwan they should continue. Only thing is that the 40 series are coming out soon so they'll discontinue the 30 series and then there will be another year long waiting list for those so yeah, I'm out of patience.

Built a new system around an RTX3080 MSI Gaming Z and i7 12700k back in April and the prices of the GPU have only come down about 60 quid from what I paid. They have indeed stabilised lower to RRP now though.

MSFS2020 now gives up to 70fps with everything on max with the above system, previously high 20s with a GTX1070 and i7 4790k. My old GPU is for sales incidentally, if anybody wants one. Perfect working order.

I see the 40 cards are out.. 600fps and 500hz monitors seem crazy

30x cards still seem tres pricey to me. 3060ti for over 400 notes?

I've got a 1660 super which is a great card but struggles with newer stuff in 1440.

It's the new quo - I can't see things changing moving forwards in terms of pricing on cards now.

The 40x series are just insane though; it's a massive performance boost over the 30x - if you're willing to stomach the prices.

The 4090 is basiclaly a Titan, and isn't suitable for anyone but the still relatively few people with money to burn for high FPS 4k or VR.

The 4080 and below are of more interest, given they have significantly less silicon in them and are more realistic in terms of where the market will be power/performance wise at the high end - bear in mind according to Steam Survey, less than 4% of people have a 4k primary display and that's likely to stay that way for a while yet till GPU prices come down for those cards that can do decent frame rates at 4k.

Currently, 1080p is where most (66%) of people are and that's something mid range* cards can do easily.

The 4090 is impressive but it's not 'real' as it were. Especially not at knocking on 500w under load and well past 650 when overclocked. At least the transient power is not, as previously feared, utterly horrific on the 4090 - they seem to have got that under control.

*well, high end price wise - there's been no real midrange cards for a few years now because of supply chain issues

I'm quite out of touch with GPU cards these days. I've still got an 11gb 1080Ti in my i9-9900K setup. Given I don't have a 4k display and am unlikely to bother, what's a sensible upgrade to my existing card?

I'd broadly agree with that - perhaps give it a bit till the 4080s etc hit the channel, that might bring prices down a bit further, too

Team Red are perfectly fine, I really like the auto-overclock stuff. A 6700 or 6800 represents much better value imo.

Fair comment. Seems that AMD card prices are falling faster and quicker than Nvidia.

Does that ever happen? Usually you see a few sticking around at the rrp then they all vanish. Certainly no massive discounts on previous gen over several cycles I’ve been interested in, and often pointless anyway when the new version of the card which was a step below the one you’re after comes out it often performs better and is a bit cheaper!

I dunno. Overclockers has a Sapphire 6800 XT at 20% off right now. Seems ok. I imagine they're not alone.

Prices remain nuts but I've just bought a used non mining 3070gtx on eBay for half current prices + new PSU..

Looks like it will offer a nice upgrade from my 1660 super which are still selling for silly money. Cheapish upgrade touch wood.
