So 20gb 3080 and 16gb 3070 confirmed
Depending on price this should be the one to go for!

Re: Rtx 30 series cards
Am I alone in thinking that launching the 3080 and then releasing the 20Gb version news item is a bit, well, shitty? If somebody has just managed to get a 3080 they’ll be pissed, no? Makes what BMW did with the M5 Comp version almost acceptable.
Re: Rtx 30 series cards
Like anyone other than scalpers got a 3080
Re: Rtx 30 series cards
They're waiting till AMD show their hand next month (16GB likely) to know how to price the 20GB cards. I predict they'll be about £100-120 more than the 10GB versions. As I said before, you really don't need more than 10GB now. You only really need a 20GB card if you're planning on keeping it for a long time, or want to do >4k gaming.

Re: Rtx 30 series cards
I'm just waiting for the mid range cards to come out (both Nvidia 30xx and big Navi derivatives) to cause a price drop in current 1080p overkill cards. Then I'll pick one of them up cheap and be fine for another five years
Re: Rtx 30 series cards
With a 3060, 3070 16GB and 3080 20GB on the horizon, its definately worth waiting until the dust has settled before making a move.
I really need to upgrade - still got games like Half Life: Alyx I need to play, and Cyberpunk out next month but I'd rather have them looking their best.

Star wars Squadrons out in two weeks. My old RX580 is about 20% above minimum specs, wonder how it'll compare to the speccy trailers.

Apparently the 3090 went out of stock 2 minutes before official the launch time

Re: Rtx 30 series cards
3090 looks massive, doubt it would actually fit in my case. Not so much the length or triple slot depth, but the height out from the motherboard / standard pci slot height. Especially with the power connector coming out at an angle from the case side panel side.

Re: Rtx 30 series cards
At which point do these cards get so big and heavy that we always need supports to avoid the card pulling the mobo to pieces?

Re: Rtx 30 series cards
I don’t think the recent ones are that bad, I think some of the old 900 series cards had sagging issues and would need supports from the base of the case to stop them dropping too far.
The 10 series cards I’ve had have had metal back plates to brace the cards.
The newer ones, at least the founders cards, have been very rigid, with the different layers all interlocking to make a solid unit.
But yeah, reinforced pcie slot sockets have been a thing on higher end motherboards for a while now.

It's never a good idea to be an early adopter - even more so if you've been playing scalper prices:

Re: Rtx 30 series cards
Watched a video on this last night, looks like some of the 3rd party manufacturers are cheating out on the capacitors on the back of the board and not strictly following the reference design.
But yeah, I don’t think I’d ever rush out within the first month, the 20 series had loads of issues early on too.

Seems MSI are again among the best of the AIBs but yeah, lots of CTD problems being reported but not the FE versions.

Re: Rtx 30 series cards
3070 reviews are coming out, seems genuinely to be within a couple of % of the performance of the £1200 2080ti founders edition at 4K. Pretty staggering generational jump

Radeon 6000 series reveal/thing at 4pm, be interesting to see if AMD are bullish about it compared to the 30xx series.

Re: Rtx 30 series cards
I get the feeling that AMD will be content to be competitive in the mid-range and aren't looking to compete with the likes of the 3080 etc.
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.
Re: Rtx 30 series cards
I'd say they're being fairly bullish - they've traditionally priced themselves agressively against the NV equivelants. They seem to be going straight for them with this range.
