How can a family who has purchased 86.4% of all cars McLaren have made not make the cut for a Speedtail? :?

Turns out it had a lot to do with how much money you spent at MSO. I don't tend to do a lot of customization on my cars so my MSO "score" was pretty low. To be honest, I think McLaren made a lot of mistakes on Speedtail allocations.

Is it just me or can only the first of the 6 images for each car be displayed larger? (same with the three at the top)

Techie comment aside, thanks for sharing - interesting to read your view on the different philosophies. 460k for a race car for the road - and one with three seats -almost seems a bargain in that company.

You should be able enlarge and scroll through all the images but tech is not my strong point. The fact Ive managed to figure out how to upload articles on my own is a major personal achievement.

Yup, the SCG 004S is the one for those of us with more modest means.

Interesting take, Speedtail must photograph horribly as every photo I've seen it looks so awkward.

Respect to SCG for making it happen at a fraction of the cost. Chev V8 is the logical engine for everyone to get snobby about but I hate to think about the cost of that spectacularly bespoke V12 in the T50, quarter of a mill maybe?

Always thought Lotus missed a trick not making an Evora 1+2 with minor changes to that tub.

Speedtail is a large long car so it does photograph particularly well

I would be surprised if the T.50's V12 is more expensive than the SCG 004S.

Lotus specializes in missing tricks.

I'll admit I pulled the quarter mill number from my posterior but I thought Singer did say a while back about their own super 911 that that a run of a hundred cars has no economy of scale, you're making a hundred one-offs in terms of cost.

They really do, spectacular so sometimes. The alloy monocoque premium SUV concept pre-Cayenne and turning down the 1LR-GUE for new Esprit spring very readily and sadly to mind.

The Lotus SUV has to go down as one of histories great misses.

Interesting points regarding the Show And Display exemption. 2500 miles isn't alot, but when you own a number of cars it's probably enough, unless you do want to take it on a big trip?

Also good point about what happens to GMA, once Gordon finally decided to retire.

Remember the days in F1 when Lotus was the racing company which come up with all the tricks? 😄

They rebrand to NGMA?

How many people with hypercars don't drive them 2,500 miles per year when they're not under Show and Tell?

Me 3neither.

Although I did have to google the engine code - That does appear to be a bit of a missed opportunity. :?

Although every test would still say ā€œdespite the humble origins of the Toyota-sourced engineā€ and go on to suggest it didn’t sound as good as the Porsche v10. ;)

There were connections between the Bahar management team and the DTM supplier HWA. Their V8 was certainly spectacular but ready for mass production it was not. At least not by the time the development money was turned off.

While most owners rarely put more than 2500 miles on a hypercar in a year, if you think about the core of the GT concept, its long road trips. Distances in the US are long and you would easily do 2500 in a road trip or two.

Didn’t Murray say the highest mileage F1 has done about 60k miles, oddly enough that works out a bit under 2500 miles / year.

Which is a bit sad when you think most are well under 1000 miles / year
