Car is back...

ABS Wheel Sensor I bought from eBay was a dud, so nothing wrong with anything I did which is frustrating and a total waste of time and money given the last few weeks of no ABS.

Oil leak looks like its the timing chain cap which appears to be a common seal, so fingers crossed nothing major although its a couple of hours work to swap it out as you need to lock the engine and remove the tensioner. My mechanic didn't want to start removing anything as he didn't have the tools for the timing chain stuff so I've got it booked in to a local specialist on Thursday. OPC were looking for £200 to diagnose the leak and prepare a quote to fix it.

Exhaust time now @Broccersso have started reading up on this... One of my boxes has a hole in the top of it so that rules it out for sending in exchange unfortunately.

Now I'm showing my total lack of car knowledge.

I'm after a cat-back system right, minus the tips? Which is basically replacement boxes and pipes down from the cats?

I see there's valved and non-valved ones, some are switchable, but what if I don't want any of that nonsense?

Some lovely fuckers run into the front and done one so that's a few more quid to spend on it.

250 quid bad - dent needs pulling out and painting whole bumper.

What a PITA. I guess £250 isn't too bad in the scheme of things, could have been a lot worse.

Tony Banks is a no on the exhaust... local place is a no... Carnewal is a no...

So, looks like its back to the usual suspects - Top Gear, Milltek, Design Tek. Standard replacements seem to be about £800 and the switchable valve ones are about a grand.

Local indy is going to adjust timing chain and replace the pads which means exhaust off and engine out, so its as good a time to do the exhaust as any.

Yes youre right - its a local place thats doing it for reddies - I fully expect it should be more. Has warned me it wont match the wings and bonnet exactly but thats usually the case when you dont spray everything at the same time.

Good luck on the exhaust, makes them a lot more enjoyable. The internet says topgear and many others come out of here http://www.liangfei.com.tw/about.php and they are branded differently but still the same.

I've ended up ordering a valved version from Design911. I guess things would be different if it wasn't for Brexit and Covid, but choices are limited a bit with the timeframe I have. I'm not even sure if I can get the exhaust in time for the engine being out, so its a case of keeping the fingers crossed.

Bit of a burny smell and smoke after a spirited drive today, but looks like its just oil on the exhaust from the leak under the timing chain cap. Apparently where it was meant oil was just getting blown back and covering everything, so that's not a great combination on a back box which has a hole in it.

There was a small crack in the Boxster boot logo which was very badly repaired at some point so that came off today and have ordered a replacement from China. I also swapped out the worn black wheel centres for colour ones.

I'd say speak to my paint guy, but given you're probably quite a distance from him I'd expect the costs would go up a lot just for transport etc.

Remember when some twat parked his black Volvo into my puma? He made the, shall we say, multicoloured yellows all match around the different panels he had to work on. And the price was (as a local) quite nice.

Basically, I'm saying you'll regret cheaping out, but I expect you've factored that in, especially as it sounds like an out of pocket (no insurance) cost, which is never good regardless of how much your have in your pocket...

Cheers Beany. They've already sprayed the side once when I got it and various other cars when wankers have scraped them. Hopeful it wont be too two tone like that M3 csl I saw recently which was shocking.

And the XF as well ? You mentioned that in the other thread.

All work and no cars makes Jack a disappointing boy :(

Plan at the moment is sell the Porsche, hang onto the XF (barge size will make house moving a bit easier) and at some point in future (following many locum shifts) trade that up for something else. Maybe a Giulia or possibly an XK(R).

If I can get away without selling the Boxster, I will but it’s increasingly hard to justify as I find myself barely driving it. A grand tourer type car that ticks the majority of my boxes just makes much more sense.

I’ve advertised mine on a FB group this afternoon and the stupid questions are coming thick and fast. Well, they’re all reasonable questions... but the answers are already in the ad.

“How many keys?”
Two, as per ad

“Can you send me a pic of the service history?”
Already a pic in the ad

“How much is it? Ten minutes later: “Just seen it in ad”

Obviously I’ve cleaned up the spelling and grammar
