This thread, and seeing a lovely white with black wheels Boxster at the weekend, plus the sun being out again has got me looking at 981s on Autotrader

I don't really know much about Boxsters

But in the mid £20k-30k range for a nicely spec'd 3.4S, they seem like very appealing cars.

Wonder what they'd be like as a daily?

If he’s going to spend £15k on a 996 and another chunk of money on a rebuild he may as well just go for a 997

That’s exactly how these things go!

Spoke to the owner of the blue 986. He is looking to sell but would need a couple of weeks to get his private number plate off “and stuff”, so he’s not going to start any of that until he’s sold the car.
Cheers,

Mike.

Can only speak of my 987 but going from an estate to this I have no issues day to day - it can fit supermarket shops, garden centre plants and soft luggage with ease. It would be no use if you had a dog or kids. :)

That's interesting, thanks.

We'd be moving away from an estate too - and it's only the two of us, so no issues with kids/pets etc.

When I look at a 5-6 year old Boxster S vs (say) a 1-2 year old Golf GTi/R, I'm sure the Porsche would be far more of an occasion/source of pleasure...

I used my original Boxster as a daily driver, it was great and surprisingly practical with the two “boots”. And of course the roof down for anything long like the annual Christmas tree collection.
Cheers,

Mike.

When I sold my Megane the buyer paid for me to transfer the plate onto another car, which I did online on the Saturday. I put the old plates on it on that day. The V5 turned up in the post on Thursday morning. He came Thursday pm and drove it away.

Yeah, I’ve done it on a number of occasions before, so I’m not sure how bothered he is about selling it. Also didn’t come back on quite a few questions I asked.
Cheers,

Mike.

If you can retain the registration online, it's no problem. Try to make sure the seller notifies the DVLA electronically of the sale (or that he gives you the whole V5 so you can do it yourself) and you'll get the new V5C back in a few days - plate can go on the same day using the code from the retention certificate.

If he buys one with 150k on it he still has 150k left 8-)

Plus he can make it light, fiddle with it and generally revel in there being no turbos involved!!

Plus I think the 4K would just be for the liners and pistons, I think the bill would be close to double that

Deposit deposited, will see if I can get it sorted today for delivery this week.

No 911s just now, although its been a real eye opener checking out just what you can buy for 10k! Thing is, back in the day I always wanted a Boxster S, but went for an M Coupe instead, so its an itch needing scratched.
Cheers,

Mike.

Nope, I’m hopefully going for a 2006 3.2 987 S instead. 84K miles, FSH, has been bore-scoped and has the few spec things I was after, the main one being heated seats as I remember that was a must-have for winter top-down drives up here.

That dark blue 986 with two-tone leather was a favourite, but the more i looked at 987s, the more I was sold on them. Apart from being one better, they’re a newer car (albeit a first revision) and the interiors are a fresh change from that original 986/996 look & feel. And no, I’ve never driven one.
Cheers,

Mike.
