The amount of speed enforcement currently
Re: The amount of speed enforcement currently
I'm not sure in what way an unmarked camera van is different to the numerous vans parked in lay-bys all over the country which we all already slow down for just to check I'm sure I've seen enforcement vans without a speed camera sign on them before elsewhere, so I don't think it's particularly new.
If they start using vehicles other than Transit-sized vans then I'd be worried.
I seem to have got away with the flash on the M42 on 13 December - doing 58/59 on the speedo under a 50 gantry which I read as 60 until slightly too late. If I was sent an NIP it has not got to me in the 14 days, but I think the backlog of post must have been cleared by now so I don't think one was sent out. Phew.

Re: The amount of speed enforcement currently
Interesting point - if the recent strikes meant your NIP didn't arrive in the required time, would you have a case to ignore it ?
Re: The amount of speed enforcement currently
A3 in Surrey. It’s a regular laser location during most days but can now add nights to that too.
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: The amount of speed enforcement currently
Yes... but. A big but. It has to be served within 14 days, and since they're sent out by first class post that means they need to be posted within 12/13 days of the offence date. The law deems service by first class post to take place after 2 working days. If they posted it and it didn't arrive, it is up to the recipient to prove that they didn't receive it in time. That puts the burden of proof on the recipient, and there is case law on the point - in one case, despite the postman who delivered the NIP after 14 days giving evidence of the date of delivery, the court still did not accept that this was sufficient evidence to rebut the deemed delivery within 2 working days (there is doubtless more to the case, but I'm using this to show how high the burden of proof actually is).
So had I received an NIP after, say, 18 days, I'd have had to weigh up whether it is worth going to court to try to prove the actual date of receipt or just pay the fine. If it had been a speed awareness course, I'd have taken that rather than a day out in court; even if I had to accept 3 points on my licence, I'm not sure the hassle would have been worth it.

Got an NIP before Christmas, bloody M4 gantries are well and truly live now!
Should be speed awareness course at least.

Re: The amount of speed enforcement currently
Where there will be very little content about the impacts of speeding on the Motorway...
I got done for 82 on the M40 and my 4 hour course had 3 or 4 minutes on speeding on the motorway and 3 hours and 56 minutes about speeding in a residential 30 zone...
Re: The amount of speed enforcement currently
Is it 4hrs?
Re: The amount of speed enforcement currently
My mid-2020 (so early-ish in COVID, online) course was about 2hrs though you're booked in for half a day. They may have increased the length a bit now they're used to online courses - or are they now in the flesh again? Anyway, say as little as you can no matter how much you want to correct or contradict stuff, because it'll be over sooner.

Yeah, I've heard that before. I will do my best to stay tight lipped!Jobbo wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 2:34 pmMy mid-2020 (so early-ish in COVID, online) course was about 2hrs though you're booked in for half a day. Re: The amount of speed enforcement currently
I think they have specific courses dependent on what you were caught for these days. I was also snapped on a motorway and it was a 4hr course just on that. Late 2020 IIRC.
Re: The amount of speed enforcement currently
We had a gobby South African accountant with golf ball adenoids that went on and on moaning and arguing the toss (with not even very good arguments). I don't think he actually extended the session at all but he sure made it more painful.duncs500 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 3:58 pmYeah, I've heard that before. Re: The amount of speed enforcement currently
That one (I’ve done 4…) was back in 2011 or 2012
The first one I did was brill, the other 3 were Shite and contained a mix of preaching, bad advice and outright falsehoods
last one I did was 2015 or 2016

Re: The amount of speed enforcement currently
Just be grateful you have the option! It's something else the Scottish government promised to put in place and 7 years later there's still no speed awareness courses up here!
Cheers,
Mike.
