Niger apparently closed their airspace last night without warning, causing some fairly significant disruption.

Recently got into this. We are seemingly in the direct flight path for RAF Mildenhall and I get to the see bellies of stratotankers and rivet joints coming in to land, as well as the daily 10am F35 sortie out of Lakenheath.

Went out to the garden 10 minutes ago and heard a fairly loud jet. I looked on ADSB but could only see a Ryanair plane at 38,000ft so I was a bit concerned about the noise it was making. Just seen that a pair of B2 stealth bombers flew over en route to Fairford: https://www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk/n ... th-8686879
So it must have been those I heard. Too stealthy to appear on the radar of course 😄

Actually spotted by someone:

One flew over as we were walking off after football at about 20:15. Mad looking thing.

Think it just flew over again - heard it, nothing on radar and now it’s dark there was nothing except a subtle flashing light.

Being a bit of an aviation nerd I had to read about that, delta wings are very cool.
The specifications and efficiency of these seems quite incredible

I like how you can also stick it on a trailer and it doesn't look too unwieldy. Lots of people going up and down the M20 at this time of year with a massive glider in tow - however its so long that it looks unpleasant as soon as you get off the motorway.

They are also a PITA to overtake when they travel in convoy along the A93.

Weird seeing a delta on a subsonic plane - surprised it provides good efficiencies.

There’s a light plane which went down today at Enstone. Sadly the pilot died. He was quite close to us. At least he was doing what he loved.

I mis-read that and assumed the crash was physically close to you  - sorry to hear that Simon.

Not a million miles away, but no - close family (my sister-in-law's dad). When I heard he was flying a Spitfire I thought it would be all over the news but it was a replica so not going to get the same attention. He flew over our house to wave at our house warming party six years ago; he loved it. Such a shame.

I think an investigation is standard practice even if you just put down in a field with no damage or injury. But it’s definitely gratifying to know the actual cause is being investigated properly.

I’ve found comments on his Facebook page about the Spitfire replica being a challenge to fly, but he seemed to love it.
