It’s pretty hypocritical to criticise this sort of thing too harshly if you break the speed limits yourself. I’m (uncharacteristically) with Dave on this one - if only for the amount of work and modifications that go into doing it.

If they were stationary for 38 mins then it would have been 108-108 mph average. But I don’t know the route in particular, is it all on motorways etc.
Reminds me of the person on boatshoes who tried to cross from John o Groats to Lands end in an Audi - think the fun police killed that.

A 4.2l A8 is wonderful place to be at 145 mph (where local conditions allow)

Why did he make the car more conspicuous by blanking off the rear lights ?

The previous record run used a Mercedes E63 which also had part of the rear lights blanked off in body-coloured wrap. Apparently gives a less distinctive light signature (they reckoned it made the E63 look like an Accord at night) and while nerds might recognise it as an Audi A8 it's probably enough to throw off most people who'd call the police and report a generic white sedan instead of an Audi that passed them at 130+mph.

I was interested in the previous E63 one and how they did it - thermal imaging cameras and the like on top of all the police scanners, switchable brake lights, etc. Mostly though it was having loads of people along the route pre-sweeping it for them just before they'd arrive, which didn't really feel in the spirit of things somehow.

This Audi one - really does feel like cheating if you're going to do it when traffic (and police presence) is low.

I don’t think taking advantage of the Virus is cheating, in the same way they could have timed the run for another really quite traffic time of the year when there’s holidays such as Christmas. It minimises the risk, they’re obviously breaking the law but they do have measures in place to try and cut down the risk of Doris seeing them, deciding they’re going too fast and pulling out on them anyway.

Although knowing my Mustang can do that with either lots of stops or just fitting a big ass fuel tank is pretty cool

The original concept was quite cool, but this is silly.
