Bearing in mind the nigh on £20k it’s cost them in warranty claims in the last 2.5 years, Porsche’s renewal quote of £1k for 12 months came as a nice surprise. I was expecting little change from £2k based on anecdotal evidence and my own cynicism.

£1k a month for 12 months. You're reading it wrong.

Cheaper than Merc want for a CLS extended warranty £1850 per year) - go for it, it’s a bargain.

£1k a year isn't too bad, really - although that does buy you a fair bit of work at a good indy.
IIRC Merc wanted £130/month on the AMG, although that did include a yearly service and MOT under their plan.

Manufacturer backed warranties tend to be fixed price for model/age/mileage aren’t they?

I ended up keeping the one on the wife’s car going. It’s £29 a month and last year it paid out £4K for the gearbox.

Gone are the days or Beemers, Mercs and Porkers being reliable...

I found md warranty painful. Keep changing parts ideology until the find the right one... or not.
Better to buy something reliable in first place

The 3-series warranty is much cheaper than the 5-series one, even for the same engines.

True enough, although the amount of work this car has had (£8k for a hybrid motor IIRC) I’ll go ahead with the renewal. It’ll be going at the end of year so the piece of mind is worth it.
