Legal/HR question

My work is currently pt 5 days a week based from home.

My work wants me to to 3 ft days in the office 8 or 9 miles away.

The relevant clause in my current contract states - "Place of Work - You will be based from home and you will be required to work at various locations as required by the company to meet the needs of the business."

A change of base is not the same as being required to work at various locations as for the last 4 years that has simply meant visiting customers.

I had already planned to leave when something came up but this effectively means I have 3 commutes a week plus possible childcare needs for after school with zero benefits of offer of anything.

Any advice please?

My advice is this: don’t take legal advice from Internet car forums.

Cheers, it was more the specifics of the flexibility, ie BASE change is not the same as "required to work in various locations" and I know we have lawyers on here who would know about ambiguous clauses.

Shut down conversation - no useful input.

Personally - I would ask for a compromise instead of checking my legal position - have you asked your employer to consider your position and suggest a solution? Common sense I guess.

I am going through that process now. They have been a pretty decent company to work for and we had discussed a few changes but the only ones they have now proposed are the ones that are costing me money. My wee sister is an HR professional so have prepared a small list for them which I will give them but just wanted to explore all options.

I am hoping they just add half a day from home which would cover the petrol which doesn't seem a lot for 4 years service. :)

If you remain home based, but have to travel, can't you expense the cost?

even if he could, I don’t think this worry is over £7 a day cost...

Possibly not, but he did mention the cost of petrol. But having to commute is the issue, I know.
