Interested to see how the Forum's voting compares to the UK as a whole.

Also, this is the 666th thread on the forum.

Seems oddly apt.

So not very representative of the UK as a whole then with the Lib Dems in first place

Is it possible to get the majority of votes cast, but a different party get a majority in Parliament ? I imagine it is but I can’t do that maths in my head.

Not a huge suprise though, given our mix of pretty well educated, pretty good earning, quite politically liberal members. It's not like we have lots of handymen or supermarket shelf stackers on here ;)

I'd say it's early doors yet, but there's only about ten other regular members on here so...

I think it’s definitely theoretically possible because of the seat system.

I've chosen other, but I can't vote here (or anywhere else for that matter).

I voted Labour as Lib Dem has never had any chance of getting in here. The Conservatives got on by 968 votes last time so it was purely a tactical vote.

Isn't that what used to happen when Scotland votes labour. Number of voters up there is small in comparison to the seats they hold (55??). I have no evidence for this just a vague recollection 😂

UKIP got more votes than SNP at the last election but only got one seat I think so it could theoretically be possible as the size of constituencies varies massively- one constituency could have 20,000 voters in it and another only 1000, but ultimately both only gain one parliamentary seat

Constituency boundaries are set to have roughly the same number of voters in each, so you wouldn’t have quite that variance.

It is easy to postulate a scenario where one party gets a majority of a few seats seat with 51/49% in the seats it wins, while the losing party has 90% of the vote in the seats it wins. That’s how Trump won, too - less total votes but more seats in the electoral college.

That exit poll is surprising. Let’s see how accurate it is.
