I thought you would keep it indefinitely Rich. How on earth did you end up in a Corsa though? I thought we all bought new cars before getting rid of the old one

However, I can confirm that I won’t be buying a Corsa. Ever.

Even on hire, how on earth did you end up with a Corsa? Really bad planning there

I think you'd be surprised Rich - there are quite a few old things you can buy for not much cash that will be as good or better than a 75 bhp Corsa.

Anyway, sounds like you enjoyed your V8 experience - onwards and upwards ( or sideways! )

I agree with Mike. Even a CityRover has 83bhp.

Could be a good opportunity to trawl auto trader for a silly cheap stop gap car. Can you beat my £170 V6 Mondeo, for example.
Though I appreciate you may want something that makes your commute vaguely reliable, like a hired Corsa.

The Corsa was whatever was cheapest, available immediately and walking distance from my office - I don’t really care about that tbh - it’s only for a few weeks and it’ll make whatever I get next feel faster!

I can’t be arsed with old high milers at the moment, even though I always quite liked the 130i. I rely on my car pretty heavily for work and I don’t have the time to deal with repairs/risk/etc. So I’m trying the lease route for a couple of years to see if I like the concept or not.

I’ve always been wary of the idea of monthly payments on cars rather than just buying them outright, but mainly for cash flow (getting rid of my loaded credit card and big interest) I’m giving it a go.

I was spending £80 a week in petrol just for my commute (17mpg), plus £50 a month road tax, plus the unknown costs which will surely kick in doing 15k miles every year.

So I’ve been looking for a while and wanted to find something:

- reasonably frugal (capable of 30mpg or more)
- reasonably practical (able to have a baby seat and a mountain bike)
- affordable monthly (<£300 for 12-15k miles)
- lower insurance (so I can get mrs B on it so I can steal her car when I need it)
- entertaining enough to not hate every day driving it.
- decent looking (I don’t care about age, but cars have to appeal visually for me to be interested)

So I’ve ordered a Golf GTI.

Why not an R out of interest (no idea if that north of 300 notes a month)?

yep, price, availability, mpg, insurance, etc... The GTI just fitted the compromise best.
