That's true to an extent. A 2.7 on an empty road is just as fun as a 3.4. Difference is when you have other traffic about and you need to overtake swiftly to avoid getting stuck and frustrated behind dawdlers - then the extra torque of the bigger motor is very useful.

Yip, agree with both of those and its possibly the fact I've had the Golf R for over 18 months now that I find myself looking sideways at less powerful and older cars.

My Boxster was a 2.5, which handled amazingly, but really did need a bit more poke. The 2.7 sorted that out as I remember, while not being as flat out quick as the 3.2 S.

This is a fun car. 300ish bhp is enjoyable. No point in having anything quicker for the roads with a front numberplate 😄

Cheers!

I'm starting to realise it's true what they say about owning a Porsche. A certain amount of envy comes your way even when it's a cheap one.

Because people don’t realise they’re cheap and they look great even as they age.

I’ve noticed a different attitude from people when in mine as opposed to the Audi.

I had the roof down over summer, it was over 30 degrees, and a bloke in a white van driving the opposite way shouted ‘WANKER’ at me 😂

I need to do some pictures and a thread on this - first sunny day and its still filthy.

One thing I have done is look at servicing costs from a local specialist - cant grumble at these?

Good morning Simon hope you are enjoying you Porsche so far

to carry out a minor service you would be looking @ £170 + vat and brake fluid change £30 + vat

drive belt would be £45 + vat

the ims issue on a 57 plate shouldnt be and issue as it should have the uprated ims end bearing on it

So the last bit I was sweating about as it never got mentioned and I looked at horror stories after buying it - facebook is especially good for rubbish info

£170+vat is decent. I think my local (Northway) were quoting £230 last I looked.

Been out for a proper spin in it today.

Firstly to Chesterfield for a big Tesco shop - as I have never opened the boots it was fantastic to see so much space - and nothing dead in there. Truth be told when I picked up the car I just transferred the cash, took away the docs and drove off home having not a scooby how to do a thing.

Another reason for looking was I popped into a 'detailer' yesterday to see about cleaning the roof and giving the car a once over. It seems detailers can't do that but have to get all panels mirror shiny and charge you a grand. It may be going there for a poverty clean including inner wheels but he did ask if I knew where the locking nut was - erm no. So part of this mission was to find it - I looked everywhere, found 2 old number plates but no tools or locking wheel nut. Well those that know, know that its behind the carpet where the triangle is. How did we cope before google?

Next, I opened the roof using GGs tip from the other day. And we had no issues !

I have to say I bloody love this car - I was really worried about things going wrong and wondered if I'd made a bad error. The tyres are nearly brand new on the front (just looked at the rear on that pic and its a bit worn), the history is spot on with main and specialists doing whats required tying in with the miles on the mots. So time to enjoy it.

Took it over my biking route and stopped for just two pics https://photos.app.goo.gl/vyt2u4ksBs4bQHew6

Was a bit cold up there but heaps more enjoyable than on a bike at this time of year.

All in all its made me enjoy driving again. We are up in edinbro soon but I am still paying for the Golf so it makes sense for that one last trip to remind me of how mundane its capable faux sounding labelled panels and easy to use infosystem entity is - but it is not exciting unless you are about to kill yourself

Downsides - got to mention them - the brakes, need a good standing on - this may be me but theres no mention of any fluid change for a long time in the book so I will start there - cheers :D :D :D

Glad to see you are enjoying it 8-)

Every car I’ve owned has benefitted from a few hard stops in a row, I even do it when the wife has had the ML for a month, slow driving does seem to glaze them slightly.

Any car that makes you want to take a more fun route has to be applauded, something Visceral makes all the difference.

Dave!

Thanks - I did that last night and today. I'm not sure they are as they should be.

Lets hope I don't forget I'm not in a push and go car and stack it as its not very grippy out there.

What sort of state is the roof in?

I've had a go with the AutoGlym kit, but it didn't shift the worst of the stains - so I'm curious to see how your roof is, and how anyone you choose to use gets on with cleaning it. It proper drags my car down visually.

And might I recommend popping the roof down for a trip to the shops on a cold start? Makes it far more interesting and enjoyable

Looks larvely.

Brakes are set up for modulation and very much not over-servoed so it could just be you need to get used to the way Porsche set them up.

They should still really pull you up when you lean on them though so if they're not then yes, likely air in the system or maybe a problem with the master cylinder. They're Brembo units fundamentally so should be pretty reliable.

Autogylm worked a treat on my old Elise roof - and the sealant it came with massively helped with leaks.

Also, it's been mentioned before, but Gummi Pfledge any rubber seals on the roof - not sure how many you have being a fabric roof (or any?) but on the folding hardtop of the SLK, it was a lifesaver for getting rid of squeaks.

I think it might be partly me and jumping in and out of the golf which is pretty amazing to be honest.
