1 inch from sidewall might not suit a vulcanised patch repair, but (since you’re not likely to be running at 175mph for extended periods on teh autobahn) I’d be inclined to sort it with a plug.

I have a set in the Landy and they are a get you out of the pooh solution. I’d never run one on anything for more time than was strictly essential.
I think you can get a mushroom plug but the tyre needs to be off for that.

Are you suggesting that my 160ps Ford Galaxy can't crack 175mph? How very dare you! I will have you know that it has overtaken many a (stationary/parked) supercar capable of such speeds, thus making your assumption (not in the slightest) invalid.

Nothing fancy. Michelin Primacy 4 (225/50R17 98XL W). That is extortionate, but means I'll have a non-screwed tyre tomorrow. Normally I'd use one of the online places, but can't wait for a fitting slot as we need the car.

Some Michelin tyres are very pricey. They were one of only 3 brands that do the rear tyres on the 928 (245/45/16) and the Michelin ones were
£427 EACH!

No doubt, but I paid £83 a corner when I bought them originally, so definitely frustrating that I can't use the normal suppliers.

Same tyre size is OEM on the 944T and the lack of availability is what has caused many to move up to 17” (or even 18”) wheels.

If it makes you feel better I paid about the same for my Michelins. However they were 19” and quite a bit wider and PS4S.

Because fuck 2020, the E39 530i hs failed mot emissions for carbon monoxide and the garage has basically presented the full shopping list of everything it might be. To be fair it might be all of everything. Cats, AFM, coils, plugs, stuff. So no. It has to go, preferably quickly and hassle free.
The ONLY benchmark figure of similar spec (ie. 3 litre, petrol, manual) is a neat one with half the miles at £2800 BIN on Fleabay. Do I stand any realistic chance of getting a grand for one that has 240k miles, no mot and shabby bodywork because it's "interesting"?
Fleabay is bound to be a PITA, Boatshoes might be a better bet?

I tried that, sadly didn't help. Sitting idle for five months did it no favours but it was throwing the odd emt code before that anyway.

Looks like this year's MOT/Service is going to be a bit of a shocker for the 997... I've spent £20 on a set of wipers this year but judgement day is seemingly here:
1. both rears need replacing (£500) to get through the MOT;
2. it has a leaking power steering rack which I've known about for a couple of years now (and it is a recurrent fault on 997s) but its now got bad enough that it needs replacing asap (£1000);
3. "whilst you're in there", it also has weeping crossover coolant pipes. Apparently there is a significant saving to do this and the rack at the same time so I need to speak to 9e and see how much the saving is or if it can wait. If we add this on that's another £1000.
4. Rear coffin arms are delaminating - again, we'll see if this needs doing now or can wait (£500)
5. Minor service plus brake fluid change (£500).
Plus the rear discs need doing soon. Depending on what can wait that's a £3,000 bill.
Naturally this was also the month we're spending £12,000 re-doing the garden.
I'm going to sit in a corner and cry now.
