After 10 minutes on Rightmove, using filters Bob and Sue could have managed themselves. We marched them around the house, tactfully ignoring the stench from the chicken factory and the black mold blooming upstairs, because even misery needs editing.
The big moment: Bob and Sue made their pre-scripted offers by phone. All accepted on cue, all perfectly hollow.
We visit them twelve months later, Bob and Sue are trapped. The house is barely livable. The kids have been parked with nan. Bob and Sue grind through double shifts at the chicken factory to cover renovation bills that never end. Selling is impossible. The house is worthless, prices elsewhere have exploded, and their mortgage is a noose. Credit scores ruined. Lives quietly collapsing as we thinly vial their choice to stay as a positive.
Next week, we will coax an elderly couple into spending their pension on a charming thatched ruin that leaks whenever clouds gather, in a village no one can afford to stay in. The only amenity is a gastro pub they cannot eat at. The village is emptying out to shoddy new developments built on landfill with subsidence in the next town with the over-priced wine bars .

Yum. It’s the final line that really pushes it over the edge.

That particular person who works for top gear must be my neighbour then. The new M5 I posted at the beginning of the year was also a press car, which I imagine was loaned to the same person.
