What I was wondering about was the Sunseeker-style boot floor. Having seen a CLS with the £6k wooden boot floor option, I'd never want it (noisy, things slip around) but it's part of the Exclusive pack on the Q7 V12 which was apparently a £40k+ option when new

Wow. I have a cherry wood desk that I won't use in fear of scratches much less a car boot floor.

This was on a separate thread, but thought I’d move it in here. Bought last Saturday on a whim after browsing on Friday afternoon, realising that I would need a car before the end of the year to put an 11 year NCB policy into or lose it.
325ti, 88k with an idle problem, occasional engine warning light and torn drivers bolster from a small time trader with a recovery truck. A deal was struck at £1150.

Drove it home and everything feels tight still, performs well until the eml comes on and reduces power.
Going through the extensive history with the car it appears to have been a pre-reg, then three years either the first owner, eleven with the second, four with the third (when it didn’t move for three years), then two owners in three months.
Anyway, the last owner spent over £1100 on it - Pirelli’s all round, rear trailing arm bushes, cam sensor, maf and I guess fell out of love with it because of the idle/power issue that two garages couldn’t trace.
Everything else works, including ice-cold a/c.
My eBay code reader said idle control valve stuck open, so I replaced it tonight (treated it to a genuine Bosch item) and it seems to be cured!

I’ll get the seat and worn steering wheel and gear knob sorted, a new window regulator as one is slow, and perhaps new rear springs as it sits a bit low.
I think I got a bargain!
Cars like this really remind you that for driver enjoyment, and everyday usability the peak is about 1999-2009.

That's a result if you've fixed the issues with an eBay code reader where many garages have failed!

Very cool Steve. Even with my prejudice against the devil's fuel I can see the appeal in that. Q7 shape has aged very elegantly as well.

After going through quite a few sections of deep water when I got up yesterday to go to work the response was quite bad from the engine. I’d been through a 2 foot puddle for 20 metres or so the night before so thought the worst. Drained the fuel filter to check for water, none, lift pump seemed to offer resistance when doing it by hand, throttle cable was free as I regularly grease it, throttle linkage was all ok and the spring was in the right position.
I then decided maybe the diaphragm was bad in the turbo wastegate and I’d need to look at it during work.

Jumped in and noticed the floor mat had rolled back and was catching the throttle stop

Well, it’s he a good check over at least!!

Ha. I can sympathise. I'd been faffing with my new 2nd hand lawnmower and fixed it worse. Finally got it work and it conked out again. Stripped it all down fiddled with everything then put it back together. Only then did I realise it'd run out of petrol Fired first pull after I filled it.

FFS Wife drive the Q7 for the first time today and brought it back with this addition to the previously near-perfect osf wheel:

“Well you didn’t tell me it was so wide!”

That's a shutter! On the upside though, Carbon ceramic brakes FTW too.

But that’s the thing, I did ! Before she went out I told her to mind the wheels because they’re large with quite low profile tyres and very easy to kerb, and I just got a silent roll-eyes and “you think I don’t know how to drive” look.

Oh well. It’ll put her off driving it to the shops again. Silver linings etc.
