Must be the year of the 80s sequel next year

I'm equally as excited about that, which is rumoured may even have Bill Murray on board 8-)

It's a Michael Bay movie starring Ryan Reynolds, so wall to wall action and silly one liners.

Within 5 mins of the opening car chase I was firmly in the "this is absolute garbage" camp, and considering switching over. By about halfway through my brain had melted and I didn't care. Gloriously shit and brilliant at the same time.

Just make sure to take your brain out about 30mins before watching and you'll probably enjoy it right from the start.

7.5 Green Giulia 4 Cheeses that never get damaged no matter what hits them out of 10
i turned it off after 10 mins.

I think that one line is the most embedded in my mind from the first film.

Edit - CGI’d effort at the conceptual SR72 for the pedantic
They must have missed that the SR72 is intended to be a UAV...

Wikipedia talks about a manned, scaled prototype - perhaps this is what Maverick is flying in the movie..

"In November 2013, construction of an optionally-piloted scaled demonstrator was planned to start in 2018. The demonstrator was to be about 60 ft (18 m) long, about the size of a Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor, and powered by one full-scale engine to fly for several minutes at Mach 6.SR-72 flight testing was planned to follow the planned timeline for the hypersonic High Speed Strike Weapon. "

If they stray into the area of non-existent planes then it risks turning into a shit movie.

True...

But let's all remember - the original was utter shite and really, really hasn't aged very well at all :D

Yes, there is rampant homoerotica in the film but way to ruin the subtext.

That trailer rocks and prove my theory that Top Gun Maverick may be the best movie ever made.

I've booked Star Wars tickets for myself and the sprogs for Friday afternoon although I'm strangely nonplussed by it at the moment. That's possibly down to not enjoying The Last Jedi, but this should be absolute catnip for me being a child of the 80s and my first cinema experience being taken to see Star Wars.

I've also decided to just book tickets because of the inevitable spoilers which will be impossible to avoid over the next while.
