I must say - its a lovely looking thing Simon. Personally I think good value at that price given the condition.

It was always a lovely thing to look at, and it sounded nice, but I didn't rate the M30 except for nostalgia. The M50 with VANOS in the 525i Touring I had around the same time was a much nicer engine, IMO.

M30 was always a bit of a boat anchor, they do sound nice though.
Dtm exhaust looks terrible on an e34, no wonder it's the only one I've ever seen

Bear in mind who posted that. Lucky the car isn't up on bricks and / or wasn't stolen for long enough to take those pics.

What a way to make an entrance.
Hopefully he's got the standard exhaust pop / banging mod every Cnut in a fiesta / focus seems to have.

I trust he has elevated his insurance policy to 'hire or reward' cover.
I suspect not.

The 'bag of bolts' sounds is only at idle (and even then only with a quiet exhaust fitted). I think ironically the ones Rich is thinking of as 'exceptions' (i.e. GT3s) are the ones that sound most like that because of the single mass flywheels they're fitted with. They all emit a spine tingling howl at 5-6k rpm and a great burble lower down in the rev range - just part of their inherent character.
‘Bag if nails’ sound usually only for the first few seconds after starting the engine. ‘Character’
Here’s ‘warm idle’.

I expect you’ve been enjoying the RSRs at Le Mans. Easily the best sounding car out there bar none. Quite amazing really as you’d expect the Ferraris to give a good showing but they don’t really. Total screamers.
Second favourite for me are probably the Corvettes.
Hopefully I’ll see them up close at goodwood in a few weeks time. This clip from last year was amazeballs:

No picture....but a 51-plate Z3M Coupe
Been many years since I saw one on the road, still looking awesomely awkwardly shaped.
