mik wrote: Sat Dec 07, 2019 11:33 am Finally watched Blade Runner 2049 with youngest miklet on Netflix last night.

Thoroughly enjoyable, and some of the cinematography and light play was just stunning. Gosling was great too. Long film, but the pace worked well for me and felt very like the original in that respect.

9 was that a real memory or an implant out of 10z
I felt that Gosling had acting tuition for this film. Much better than his usual staring into space expressions.

Blade Runner 2049 looks incredible, but much like the first Blade Runner, I've yet to make it all the way through after about 5 attempts to do so at home. There's just something so relaxing about the visuals and the soundtrack that it puts me to sleep. Took years to get through the original. Must try harder.

I’ve never managed to watch the original all the way through!

I know people consider the original to be a classic but it is dull and slow, but you need to watch it to fully appreciate 2049, which is one of my all time favourite films. One of those rare “sequel better than the original” moments.

Aye, I don’t like the original Blade Runner at all but loved 2049.

Looking forward to seeing what Denis Villeneuve does with Dune.

Watched Joker this morning and it was alright.

Joaquin Phoenix was great as usual but the movie was pretty uninspired, just a collection of bad tropes and ideas from better films.

Seriously WTAF Bladerunner is almost flawless. 2049 is pretty good but...

It’s a snooze, I think Ridley Scott is a massively over rated director though.

Yep. I love both but the original is the better film. 2049 is more of an extended arthouse film in the style of Bladerunner.

Trailer for the new Ghostbusters looks surprisingly good!

Going to watch The Irishman tonight as I've not had time yet, the book was very good so hopefully it lives upto it!

Public service announcement - Ronin has just appeared on Netflix. Best car chase film of last 30 years IMHO (just in case some joker on here has never heard of it...😄)

PS - really enjoyed The Irishman - someone on here said it was immersive, and I'd agree with that. Just like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, it slows the pace and because it's so beautifully made and acted, you're happy to just enjoy the time spent in that world with brilliant actors. It was very funny in places, Pacino especially. Joe Pesci was a bit of a revelation as a lo-fi character rather than his usual high intensity self 😆

Another film I've never seen all the way through!

6 Underground

It's a Michael Bay movie starring Ryan Reynolds, so wall to wall action and silly one liners.

Within 5 mins of the opening car chase I was firmly in the "this is absolute garbage" camp, and considering switching over. By about halfway through my brain had melted and I didn't care. Gloriously shit and brilliant at the same time.

Just make sure to take your brain out about 30mins before watching and you'll probably enjoy it right from the start.

Hard to tell but it could be an SR72

Edit - CGI’d effort at the conceptual SR72 for the pedantic

Looks like it might not be shit. I’m guessing it’s going to be a semi-reboot of the original story.
