I can’t even see it in the App Store. (Work iPhone)
Need to look for Threads, an Instagram app
Cheers - that worked. Stoopid system.

Edit - it linked to instagram seamlessly.

What's the website address? Obviously I want to see it in a browser, not just on my phone. Looks like Zuckerberg didn't manage to get www.threads.com

Bit of an omission. Even Instagram has a web interface, but I can't find Threads via that either.

This is the first development that I think could seriously damage Twitter

The website is just a QR code to the app download link. I imagine this will be App only, which will put me off. So far I'm not overkeen as the algo has clearly no idea what I want to look at, and you can't curate your own feed with your selected followers.

As an MVP it's ok tho.
You settle up, I'll go get the Jag.

If you type in the profile name, you can see the profile on the website. I've not worked out if you can login on the website and see a feed. If it's not available, hopefully a full functioning feed site like twitter appears soon enough.

Example - https://www.threads.net/@skysports

The app is OK for a quick browse through so far, but you're right, I think the algo needs some work. I'd also like to be able to set it to chronological, but not sure if that's possible.

It’s like a simple, pared down Twitter, which is great. And Meta have played a masterstroke with it, because every creator on IG who has a decent following is jumping onto Threads and immediately gaining a huge audience as their IG followers also jump across too. Then using it a bit like IG stories. Basically they’ve hit the ground running. It could very quickly hurt Twitter.

Ok your tweets get priority but beyond a few influencer type narcissists who really cares? They've lost far more in ad revenue by having the company bought out by Elon than they will gain through this. I predict it will continue making a loss until either a) Elon sacks enough people so that it just about struggles on to breakeven but still declines in popularity or b) he gets bored and sells for peanuts.

In the meantime I can see Zuckerberg frothing in excitement waiting for Twitter to go fully tits up before he announces that you can post text on Instagram. That will be Twitter fvcked overnight.

I can't see what threads offers the average user that Twitter doesn't? Unless Twitter dies, I don't get why anyone would bother with it. Presumably everyone jumping on it now is just to make sure they're on it from "the beginning" and is probably still posting on twitter too.

Same as when MySpace started going to shit, then suddenly appeared Facebook which was pretty much the same thing, but less shit and fresh.

Critical moment for Twitter, and Threads has the added advantage that it’s linked to Instagram which makes everything much easier.

Lots of people already have Instagram but don’t use Twitter.

Nice and easy having linked platforms and followers / followees from the word go instead of having to start from scratch.

Eta: anyone worked out how to post threads?

Funnily enough, it gives you the option to tweet your thread! 🤭

myspace and Facebook were different though, if threads is literally the same, what forces people to change? Being part of instagram isn’t a reason to change, it’s a fantastic advertising platform though.
