Re: EV Thread
Spotted tonight at a busy garage at rush hour. There were several empty EV charging spots as well as empty parking spots but people were queuing for the pumps...

Re: EV Thread
Can you imagine the rage if they’d prorated an ic parked blocking a charging station?
Cheers, Harry
Re: EV Thread
There couldn't have been any disabled spaces to park in.

Re: EV Thread
Might just be a local thing, but the same half dozen or so local Teslas I see round this way seem to be driven by absolute roasters. Always speeding through 20s, 30s, round bends on single track roads, no need for indicators etc.
Cheers,
Mike.

Probably haven't been able to find them
Re: EV Thread
Fisker has been issued a VIN and is going to be built next week and should be in the UK in a couple of weeks time
I can only conclude that Fisker are not begin entirely truthful about their number of orders (60,000) if they're getting through the list this quickly and they keep cutting production "to save cash for working capital" to a maximum of 10,000 cars for this year. Some pretty dodgy stuff going on for a publicly traded company and they've recently been sacking accountants.
Still, if the car is delivered in Jan it should give a time frame of a solid year of driving it and getting any minor issues resolved before the whole thing goes bankrupt!

Re: EV Thread
I popped in the Fisker dealer in Frankfurt last week and looked at them, seem well built, nice interiors and the paint looked good.
They had a couple available for immediate delivery over there as well so they can't be in short supply.
Wasn't as nice as the Porsche and Mercedes Oldtimer places I looked around though, big old 6.9 Mercedes', Air-cooled 911s, new Morgan's (weirdly), Bugattis, Citroen SM's, and all sorts!

Re: EV Thread
Prompted by the Lotus Eletre and looking at the spy shots of undisguised Macan EVs: why do so many EVs seem to have frameless windows? Is it because frameless windows are associated with expensive, luxurious cars and since batteries make EVs expensive they're fitted in a vague attempt to bolster the perceived value.
Re: EV Thread
Probably a drag related issue. When every tiny bit of extra drag reduces the range they’ll minimise it where they can. That gap between the body and the door frame probably produces some tiny vortex that makes the car less slippy. Think f1 teams taping over every panel gap
But yeah, that and it’s expensive so it’s got to look posh innit

Re: EV Thread
Do they though?
The popular ones from normal manufacturers don't - Kia Niro/soul/ EV6, Hyandai ioniq, Most Audi EVs, Toyotas, etc...
BMWs have always had lots of frameless models but the IX3 doesn't.
It just seems to be the purpose built brand new models (polestar, Tesla, bmw ix, etc), and the expensive ones, otherwise there's no specific correlation from a quick Look whilst munching lunch.

Re: EV Thread
The BMW iX has a similar size battery and frontal area but achieves just over 300miles from it 105 kWh battery.. Also, when comparing a car released even three years ago to a car released today, the new car should move the game on, because battery tech is moving very quickly.

Re: EV Thread
Toyota went to considerable effort and make the Yaris GR frameless - you end up being able to fit a much thicker pillar under the roof frame as there’s no door frame cutting into it. In some cars like coupes or even the i3 this allows for no B pillar. Looks much better too, some cars have such chunky frames and then a thick bit of felt around the window which looks shit.

This X7 looks like it has bullet proof windows but it’s just extremely thick frames.

Re: EV Thread
I've noticed this a lot lately too, but it seems to be spreading to other EV owners. I guess, when you put EV acceleration into the hands of the utter balloons that populate our roads, it shouldn't come as a great surprise. I do wonder whether whether we'll see accident numbers will go up, especially in built up areas.Ascender wrote: Wed Dec 06, 2023 12:28 pm Might just be a local thing, but the same half dozen or so local Teslas I see round this way seem to be driven by absolute roasters. Re: EV Thread
If anyone needs an electric double cab for a year there appears to be a fire sale on Maxus T90's.
12x£120 pm including vat for 10k miles.
RWD only but does have a ton payload and 1.5 ton towing capacity.

Re: EV Thread
That's cheaper than driving any of my cars
Is it that terrible? I remember mocking it because it was so ugly and cost more than £50,000 new

Re: EV Thread
Would i pay £50k for one, no but at that price its a bargain family work horse, ideal for humping stuff around.
Re: EV Thread
I don’t remember seeing any SUVs with frameless windows before. The iX3 is just an X3 with the engine replaced with an electric motor so that proves the point - it would have to share the metalwork.Rich B wrote: Mon Dec 18, 2023 1:24 pm Do they though?

Re: EV Thread
Do you have a link? I've seen a similar-ish post on twitter (£153 per month) but when I google they are all £300+ per month.Carlos wrote: Mon Dec 18, 2023 5:39 pm If anyone needs an electric double cab for a year there appears to be a fire sale on Maxus T90's.

edit: found one here for £137pm (after a 12-month up-front payment). This is for 10k miles PA. If you want to do only 5k miles PA it is £514 pm

Looks like they have all gone. A few of the EV YouTube crowd ordered one yesterday.
May be worth an email/call as some may get declined or cold feet.

Re: EV Thread
Probably a good thing - I was thinking at that price it's almost a no-brainer, but I don't need another car.Carlos wrote: Tue Dec 19, 2023 9:21 am
