Harsh on Vettel, I don't think he deserved that penalty although I like the outcome.

I thought it was harsh but fair and consistent.

I think it’s easy to argue it both ways. To me it comes down to whether or not Seb could’ve backed off more and had more control on rejoining the track, or whether that second jab of right lock was opposite lock or a deliberate move to the right. I want to see the in-car in more detail.

Toto just said you need to leave a cars width when you rejoin. It’s pretty black and white when you look at it that way. This scenario happens on most tracks with other cars side by side cutting a chicane - you either give the place back quickly or get 5 seconds. People are only making it controversial because the car which cut the chicane and rejoined illegally was in the lead. No one would give 2 shits if it were 2 midfield cars...

As someone on Ask Crofty said, he fucked up the corner and was able to rejoin without losing a place. Surely this is the same as leaving the track and gaining an advantage? Despite his mistake, he ended up being quarter of a second faster than Lewis on that lap.

Oh, and did everyone hear K-Mag getting a bollocking from Gunther for moaning about the car not being right, after the team were up all night rebuilding it after he smashed it into the wall?

Not black and white at all, they weren't side by side, Seb was ahead, messed up came out still ahead but with Lewis even closer, bit different to cutting a corner to get past a car. If Lewis had slithered past on the grass and blocked Seb, then yes, he would have had to give the place back or get a penalty. The lap being quicker was because once they had started accelerating away again Lewis was too busy bitching on the radio trying to win the race in the stewards office ( I have absolutely no doubt Ferrari would have done the same if it was the other way round )

I'm certainly not a Seb fanboy but I think it was harsh, an out of control car slithering about with tyres covered in grass is alwys going to be unpredictable and the most dangerous place to go would be to the outside of it where there's a solid wall.

Hamilton could have backed off when he saw Seb starting to have his moment and waited to see which way the car was going before taking advantage of momentum and the acceleration advantage of clean tyres.

or Seb could have backed off rather than trying to rejoin the track at full pace into the racing line.

Seb made the mistake and he paid for it

Watching it and hearing all the commentary (possibly being influenced by it) I was on SV's side of the fence. However, now that I think about it, not being in control of the car is not usually accepted as an excuse in the event of a penalty as far as I can recall.

The decision was harsh but fair according to the rules. JB's analysis of it on Sky was spot on.
