Turned up the boost again (I think my wastegate spring is half dead) the other day. Today I overtook 2 cars going uphill in 4th gear. It was like winning Le-Mans :lol:

I inspected the turbo yesterday, no end float at all so I can’t warrant the billet replacement :(

I ordered a solar panel though so when me and either of the boys go camping we can keep the fridge on for a couple of days without needing to charge the auxiliary battery. Age makes little things like that more exciting 8-)

Gearbox service done on the 650i. It's even smoother now and the gear changes are unnoticeable.

I went to an auto gearbox specialist in Hertfordshire. They were actually cheaper than the majority of independents I enquired with and seemed really good. I would recommend them if you're around the Herts/Beds area. Place is called Stephens Engineering.

So with the the gearbox serviced and the valve stem seals done, that covers two of the biggest issues that comes with these cars.

Loving these summer nights with the roof down 8-) the Dynamic Drive is so effective and appears to completely eliminate body roll; you can throw the big boat around a little bit and it doesn't feel like you're embarrassing yourself. It remains very composed and is good fun. Not often you can say that about a car that heavy that's 15 years old.

However, the brakes a still a bit wobbly when braking from speed, but the discs are looking a bit worn so will need to get them sorted soon.

My only gripe with it is the brake dust. Fuck me there's a lot of it. Even when you've been carefully anticipating traffic and just dabbing them here and there, the wheels get covered. I have used Autoglym brake dust repellent which works quite well, but you end up using half the can each time and that costs about a tenner. Not worth it as it doesn't take long for the brake dust to overwhelm the product. Nevermind.

Yes it did, I got a pay out and reclaimed all my costs. Unfortunately i was out of pocket on the situation but it turned out to be a no blame claim and she was prosecuted for leaving the scene of an accident.

Some nice bits of trim to hide the ballasts behind for some new HID headlights if you’re replacing the damaged ones there.

Nothing major thankfully, I drove it home fine. Thermostat needs replacing as it’s running cold, new thermostat is £95 including seals and postage from Porsche Cardiff, went for genuine as it’s an inlet manifold off job so 5-6 hours, makes no sense skimping on parts as labour to do it twice with a copy part will be stupid. Codes suggest a boost leak, everything looks fine that we can see but next stage is to take the undertrays off and look at the boost hoses to the turbo - it could just be a code because the engine is running slightly rich due to the thermostat.

Parking assist module is just missing :D I’ve ordered a second hand module for £90 which I’ll plug in and see what happens and go from there.

Swapped the bulb from the passenger headlight to the drivers side and the bulb is fine so presuming they ballast has failed, new genuine Hella ballast is £300 plus vat and then coding but there a company in Germany that supply copy parts precoded for £120 with a 30 day warranty so I’ll try that and hope it works. As both headlights were out I’m going to polish them before putting them back in.

I believe that’s it, there’s receipts for a propshaft and the coolant hoses look recent. Total spend I envisage as being £600.

That'll be the BMW trade off for initial bite, there's probably a newer material which will cope better although I suspect most owners "upgrade" to some track focussed pad that's wooden as Noahs Arc on public roads.

Use Autodoc app and get Brembo discs and Brembo Xtra pads (code suffix X). I have them on the M140i and they're superb!!
