Short EOTR - it was awesome; yes if you get a chance to drive/own one you absolutely should; it was easily the 2nd best car I've ever owned (after the Alfa, obvs). 285bhp was plenty for the road despite my concerns....and that ride quality is just witchcraft. No idea how you can make a car handle and ride like that while still be mega comfy on motorways yet hussle a bumpy B-road with aplomb.

Averaged 30mpg, TCO (2 services, few other bits) inc. depreciation over 19 months was about £4500, would have been less had CV not scuppered things.

One footnote: that transmission noise and gearchange is a massive letdown (despite mine having the 2012 upgrade). I'd love to own another (Probably a 400) but it'd be the IPS, doubt I'd bother with the manual again.

My not particularly exciting fleet update for today:
- Yeti: has new front wipers that are much more effective than the old ones
- Fabia: has a new front numberplate, replacing the mildly damaged one. Some stainless steel mesh (for rodent cages, apparently) arrived this morning so I'll araldite some onto the inside of the front bumper where it's cracked. Might get some paint cans ordered to spray over the damaged parts on the bumper.
- Megane: nothing even as exciting as the above to say about this one.

Exige update - tired of the exhaust valve being temperamental, I’ve decided to simply plug the vacuum line so that’s open all the time.

That is correct. My 'active' exhaust valve has been seized (no, really - my bro is a maintenance engineer and he can't free it!) since I got the car, every few months I'm thinking of ways to just cut the fucking valve out, and if it annoys the neighbours, they can take a sook on mah stroop...

Also, I had my rear wheel bearings as an advisory on the MOT, and I think I've roped my bro into coming over and helping me and my neighbour sort them out.

Me and my neighbour = no fear, but no tools
My Bro = all the tools - ALL OF THEM

So together I think we can do both rear wheel bearings and a fluid service (oil, coolant, brake fluid, PAS) in a day. Just needs some specialist tools and some patience.

Looking forward to the end of lockdown - the rear wheel bearings aren't screaming yet, but it'd be nice to get a look under there and see what else could do with attention (bushings, etc).

I’ve never suffered any valve issues (touches wooden object) but I should really do this too.....

Water pump refitted (both halves) on the Celica today as I'd reached 'max parts off' stage, and was losing sleep over making sure I had all the parts and bolts labelled. Sump and oil pump ready to drop with better weather and with a new sump arriving Monday. Enjoying getting back to the spannering and discovering you get better at it with age.

Northway Porsche is re-opening for servicing on June 22nd and I’ve got booked in for the 26th. The only problem is what happens while it’s in with them as they are in the middle of nowhere and disappearing to the village pub as I did last time won’t be on the cards.

Also I think this is a good opportunity for 4 new tyres.

I’ve done BMW rear wheel bearings once and vowed never again. Real PITA job.
