Autos are better - you can still manually wind if you wish.

What Alex said. If you want a manual winding watch you need to get one which is in some way better for being manual rather than automatic winding. The Speedy Pro is exactly that; the automatic versions are just not the watch which went to the moon.

The list price of the Speedy Pro have slowly creeped up while the watch has stayed the same mechanically, which is not a bad thing. However, Omega will be putting a new co-axial movement inside the standard Pro Moonwatch this year (covid have delayed things) so prices are likely to increase again. If you're buying a new one, never pay full retail for a Pro. Always ask for discount, at least 15% off, even at high street shops like Goldsmiths etc..

I get what you're saying, but if you're just going to get something 'better' then would you buy any of them? Might as well just buy a nice looking quartz and have done with it in that case.

Just like a dual clutch gearbox is better at changing gear than a human arm and manual gearbox.

The world would be pretty boring if everybody just chose the most efficient and cost effective option.

Watches are a bit like motorbikes in that way, I enjoy reading stuff about them, but when it comes to the prospect of owning one, I never quite make it and tell myself "someday".

'Better' not in the sense of being better at telling the time, of course That would be madness.

But if you want a mechanical watch, an automatic will give you all the ticking and mechanical joy of a manual wind without the need to get hands on every day just to keep it running. If you want a manual winder, it's got to offer something over and above a standard mechanical watch which happens not to wind automatically. The Speedy does that; an automatic winder doesn't work in zero gravity, hence the Speedy being a good watch for going to the moon

ETA: frankly I couldn't be arsed with having to wind a watch every day. I have a dozen or so automatics and when I wear one, I wear it for a week or two at a time so it doesn't stop. If I had a manual wind, I'd put it back in the case when it wound down and wear another one instead, so it wouldn't get much use.

I've never owned a Christopher Ward watch but I nabbed a C7 Rapide in the sale so looking forward to receiving it.

Good stuff.

The big-cost brands don’t really grab me. I have a C11 and a C1000 (Cockpit ed). Great value imho.

I enjoy winding my watch. I think it makes me appreciate the watch a bit more, and appreciate the mechanical bits inside
