America 2.0
Dave!
There is no way that the Americans are unserious enough to a: have a fella dressed up as a bin stand for election, or 2: the public at large hoping everyone actually votes for the bin.
This is about as gloriously British-ly silly as it's possible to be.

Oh I agree completely on the silliness of it, yet before there were still some people about who were an opposition with some substance. Now no-one else is able to compete.
It's nothing to be proud of imo especially if you live in the area.
We should be better.
Dave!

If Farage loses to binface, I really don't think we could do any better.
It's the exact opposite of America. Hopefully the people will show that we are beginning to reject some of the disgraceful human beings that we have previously allowed into our government.

That's literally the point, Dave. The idea is he gets back in because he's effectively unopposed, and the investigation into his corruption that he's trying to avoid continues. You do realise that?
Binface almost certainly won't win, so Farages "win" will be politically meaningless, because it's a stunt to divert attention away from the fact that he's funded by convicted fraudsters and has been, at best, a bit loose with his declarations of interest
If Binface *does* win, he'll likely be a better MP for the area than Farage, who as far as I can ascertain, has done next to nothing in the area - that's an *actual* thing to be angry about if you live in the area.
He's trying the Trump technique of throwing everything at the wall in the hope something sticks in the press (like his objective lies about his fault being harassed), but he's being upstaged in the press by a man with a bin for a head (who is also quite politically aware, due to writing comedy about it being his day job).
He's being utterly humiliated. It's the opposite of America, where the press and political establishment have spent a decade failing to hold Trump to account.
The system works.

And wouldn't it be hilarious if he then takes off the bin, don's a suite and turns out to be an excellent politician - a la Zelenskyy

I dunno, if I was a Clacton resident who'd voted for him I'd be livid if he was no longer binface. I voted for nationalised Adele and 99p ice cream!

My gut feel is that regardless who runs against Farage, he stands a good chance of winning again
For the simple reason that his base has probably not been as exposed to these recent stories, if they have the reporting bias may have been different, they just don't understand/care, they still see him as "anti-immigrant" and that's really what they voted for and don't care about the rest
I hope I'm proved wrong though...

Binface on Newsnight:
You want to talk to Count Binface and then you get me on NewsNight, and you start trying to deconstruct a character. I would say what are we doing here on a program which used to construct proper investigative journalism and now is a souped-up podcast.
Thing is, the more this goes on, the worse it gets for Farage.
He thought he was going to try to claim the by election would seal his position (as if the PSC is a popularity contest - I assume if I shit on my bosses desk, I can get out of it by citing my Twitter follower count ) but all it's done is make Count Binface more popular than him. By, like, a wide margin.
Even the bots that usually spout Vote Reform and Farage for PM have been quiet - the people who run those know to keep out of this utter disaster.
This is the best thing to happen in politics for months.

What does he win though? He’s desperate for a big win against “the establishment” that validates that they don’t care about the scandals. He’ll win no doubt, but every vote less than he won last time (c.21k) and every vote for Bindependance becomes a vote to say Clacton is not ok with him.
even If he gets 15k votes, then it’s pretty easy to say that 6k of the people he’s asking to judge him have declared him guilty.
Not giving him the all party big stakes battle has spoilt his game entirely.

Apparently other Reform members knew nothing about this, so had no chance to wargame it or scope it out, including the potential downsides.
He probably came up with it when in the US talking to the Trumpy types (who have a higher proportion of the educationally subnormal, the politically illiterate and the outright bigoted to vote for them) and actually thought that shit would fly here.

I do feel bad for the people of Clacton to have to go through this farce.
I also understand why none of the other parties want to legitimise Farage’s obvious attempt to deflect from his issues.

I feel sorry for the people of Clacton that didn't vote for him last time.
If you vote for a clown, you should expect a circus.

Christ, are the fuckwit right trying to speedrun being hated by everyone with an IQ above 36 or something?
Rupert Lowe has caused backlash after he claimed the 1996 Dunblane school massacre as ‘just one murder’.
The leader of the far-right Restore Britain party appeared on the podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, where he made the comments during a conversation about gun control.
Lowe, who is also the MP for Great Yarmouth, told Rogan: ‘As you probably know, they banned handguns in the late 90s because there was a murder up in Dunblane.’
Rogan then asked: ‘One murder?’, to which Lowe replied: ‘One murder.
‘So, everybody, my father used to shoot pistols for Oxford University and he had, he’s dead now bless him, but he had… all his pistols were taken away, the pistols he used to shoot with at Oxford University.’
Maybe someone should take a baseball bat to the next Restore conference. After all, even if they smash in the faces of twenty people, it's only "one attack" - and obviously Farage has been attacked, far, far more, he's the most attacked politician in the UK or something.
(and before anyone wastes their breath, I'm very obviously joking )
Christ these people are utter ghouls. I suspect the parliamentary standards folks are taking a long deep breath and letting out a long, resigned sigh at the moment - seems like they might be up for a busy week.

The Spectator are being quite bullish about Binfaces chances.
I mean, they've never particularly liked Farages greasy used car salesman schtick, but it's quite surprising to see them thinking we could see Binface actually win. That said, I think they're seriously overestimating exactly how kneejerk-populist the Clacton electorate have historically been.
The fall in Reform’s poll ratings coincides with the revelation of his £5 million gift. I’d be surprised if the latest news about help from Farage’s fraudster friend doesn’t exacerbate the shrinking in the party’s lead. But more than that, it surely shatters the idea of Farage as the plain-speaking champion of the ordinary man and woman. In reality, he’s obfuscating wildly about the huge gifts and favours he’s taking from crypto-millionaires and fraudsters, and gets angry when challenged.
Now those ordinary men and women of Clacton have a chance to say what they think about it – a chance which is going to be focused on the one candidate standing against Farage. Which is one reason why I can foresee a moment this autumn when Count Binface is standing at the bar of the House of Commons swearing an oath of allegiance to the King.

What people seem to get excited over now is the "gotcha"
A reform mp recently saved £26million or so, was it a genius move, was it financial disaster, did he rob little old ladies.
None of this was mentioned as everyone was laughing at his ill-fitting suit.
It's like me picking Hitler up on his questionable moustache and not all the gas chambers.
