The real annoying thing is they could throw literally any wheels that’ll fit over the discs to see if it sorts it, even a set of tiny steelies would be enough to see if there was a change

Car still at Peter Vardy. BMW uk have authorised a hire car for 7 days while they investigate with the factory in Germany. Lets see where this goes.

Service manager for the Scottish region has inspected the car and concurs that the next step is to replace the wheels. Quote for this is £3500. BMW UK have put a request in for BMW to make a "Contribution" towards this. Which sounds like there will be an expectation for me to meet some of the cost...I have therefore made my position on this clear. Any outcome that involves me paying towards the repair is an unacceptable outcome. The car has a fault. If the fault is that the wheels are distorted then this was done by BMW (Arnold Clark) having the wheels refurbished. This was done under warranty due to the paint failing on the wheels. There was no damage to the wheels - i have photo evidence of the paint flaking off. Any liability for the wheels being distorted lies between BMW (AC) and the Wheel Repair company. The wheels have been refurbished AT LEAST 3 times since i bought the car.

Decision tomorrow on where we go next. Looking likely there will be a debate to be had.

I still have the hire car.

Ah yes an update...

BMW have agreed to pay for new wheels. Said wheels were ordered last week to be immediately hit with a back order. 7 -10 working days quoted.

I have a contact in their parts department so i emailed her this morning rather than going through service - no update. Still saying 7-10 days.

I'm on Day 20 of having their 4 series hire car...Hire car charges are probably going to out strip the cost of the wheels at present.

Sounds like a result then, fingers crossed!

Bad luck on the 7-10 days though, they've always impressed me with how quickly they can usually get parts sent to your local dealer.

wonder if there’s any old archaic laws that say if you have the 4 long enough it’s technically yours?

If it had been a 430 or a 440 I’d be up for that. 420d makes it a bit dull however. The 220i was a lot quicker.

I dont think it is...Theres still a judder there. Its not constant now so it is better. Feels like its damper related. I'm going to hook a go-pro on the door handle and take it a drive to watch what the wheels are doing. It feels like undamped wheel travel.

Blimey. Surely at this point you can just reject it.

Totally unrelated, but it's a shame Rufford Ford is closed, would be a nice journey at this time of year....

I’ve tested that already. It’s got launch control. Nothing broke.
