What a couple of games! Gutted that Croatia couldn't get past Spain in the end - seemed to be a lot of falling over going on from the Spanish and the game got fairly stilted at one point. Poor refereeing.
By contrast, the ref in the France game allowed it flow and didn't fall for a lot of the nonsense. I was sort of rooting for the Swiss but also would have liked to see France go through and do Spain over. A Fra-Ita semi-final could have been a great tie. Feel for Mbappe as well - when you've been under pressure to score your first tournament goal as it is, to then be responsible for them going out must be difficult to get over.

Yeah, a shame for Mbappe, but he's that good that I can't see it really holding him back. It could bury certain lesser players, but he's got too much about him.

I wonder if anyone will take a bet on how many times 1966 is mentioned in the coverage today. I think somewhere in the region of 4000.

Probably not as many as 1996, but there's nothing strange about that. A lot of similarities: Eng vs Ger at Wembley in the Euros, knock out game, still in living memory of people aged 35+.

At 70mins neither side deserved it
Amazing what can happen when they actually press an attack. Sterling has been superb this tournament

Muller scores it's a different game, but definitely an improved performance. Just hope they don't take their eye off the game on Saturday thinking it's easy, we've seen that any team can beat any other in this tournament.

Yeah. Seems like it's not necessarily the big favourites you need to watch out for! Like last time when we thought we'd beat Croatia

At least I felt like we won against a decent side. I know next to zip about the game, but the first 10-15 minutes had me worried and after that it was great.

Sweden - Ukraine is a proper bloodbath. The winner should be nice and worn out for their next match with England.

I can’t believe they made that lad walk back around the pitch after the knee injury…
Mito - don’t you have family connections with Sweden or have I imagined that??
Anyway, looks like Ukraine it is

Yes, it’s also my nationality but 25 years of living here has eroded my Swedish roots somewhat

So ever so slightly Swedish then

- I thought I remembered that from back when but my memory is not to be trusted.
And I know what you mean by being slightly eroded. I've a big related milestone this Friday so I understand

Wow. That was one hell of a game. Glad to see Italy through - they look pretty dangerous and I can't see anyone else matching them. Unless Spinazzola is out - that may have a big impact on them
