Although I think he’s a bit optimistic on the collectibility front.
5+ owners - I bet it’s not as nice in the flesh.

The number of owners wouldn’t bother me, but the idea of my dull car costing more to run than my fun car would!

It only makes me suspicious because a Jag like that could be a good buy if owned for years by an old chap who kept it garaged, had it serviced at a main dealer etc. When it’s passed through the hands of a few rude boys it’s far less likely to be a nicely-kept gem.

It is always nice when you turn up to look at a car and it’s at a lovely house with an owner who can tell you every detail of the car and present a folder full of paperwork though!

I wouldn’t be too concerned with rude boys for that one, it’s old man metallic brown with dull wheels!

It’s such an old man spec most of the previous owners probably passed away during their ownership

Finally moving on from browsing autotrader idly to actually going to look at a couple of cars.

One has a wonderfully low mileage but it turns out that’s because it was SORN from 2015-2018 (something to do with it being taken back by a finance company). I don’t know how I feel about it, I almost feel like I would rather have a few more miles on the clock than the idea of it getting rusty parked up somewhere for years...

Then there is one that seems to be well looked after by the owner (although is at the time of needing cambelt doing) and only 2 miles away from me...

Got a parking space sorted (turns out the village hall across the road from me rent out parking spaces on the cheap), just need to see how much it is going to add to insurance having two cars on the go...

Before considering the first one I'd ask questions about what recommissioning they've done. Three years is a long time for the car to sit and rot.

New arrival - 2012 Jaguar XF 3.0 V6 diesel luxury

A high miler (120,000) but with a meticulous service record. It even had the full 100,000 mile service done by Jaguar at eye watering cost.

It’s been from Hertfordshire to Cambridge and over to Oxford and I’m feeling very positive. Ride is excellent and it fully fulfils the armchair on wheels brief with cruise control set on the motorway. It’s got a lot of torque low down and accelerates at low speeds in a faintly ridiculous way. The grip and turn in are great and it’s easy to carry a lot of speed through the corners... which is fortunate as I’m still recalibrating to how fast I am going as silly speeds really don’t feel quick at all. 46mpg thus far too... which is nice.

Cons: well for the first part it’s sodding huge and barely fits on my driveway! The steering feels a bit dead and over-assisted (even with so called ‘dynamic mode’ switched on but in fairness I am probably making an unfavourable comparison with the Boxster. As you would expect from a 2012 car, it’s unhappy linking to my iPhone, but I think that can be overcome with the relevant cabling.

I didn’t pick up on the test drive that there is a very subtle rumble on the brakes when you push them lightly at high speed, so they will probably need doing sooner or later. Otherwise it doesn’t need anything doing until next year I think/hope.

Over all, I’m pretty pleased!

The way you park, you'd think it was a BMW ;)

Nice colour and wheels. Is it a 240 or 275 brake version? (I didn't know the latter existed until I just spotted one on Auto Trader)

I think the wheels are only *just* big enough... Marv will approve though. :)

I had in my head that it was going to be black - looks good in that hue.

It’s a 240 - the S (275) ones did look tempting though. I think they have some suspension tweaks too.

I am really happy with the colour. I think it suits it very well, black just makes these XFs look ungainly imho.

If only it fitted on the drive properly!

Looks like it doesn’t actually fit into the space. How long is it ?

4.9m.

This was kind of brought home to me when I parked at Mrs Newt’s house and it was the same length as next door’s VW camper.

Temporary driveway solution with the Boxster in my landlord’s garage...
