That's stunning!

I've obviously lost track of M3s, because I saw this one listed on Collecting Cars and think it just looks like a boggo standard 3 series with bits on. Where are the curves and flared bits?

the Matt/satin wrap isn’t doing it any favours, it’s just flattening out the curves of the rear arches completely.

Plenty going on when you have it in a nice metallic that catches the light. I loved how Silverstone blue looked totally different colours in different lights.

I did wonder if it was the wrap, but you're absolutely right, its totally flattened the shapes out.

5500 miles in 5 Years? Sacrilege! Never understood matt wraps or paint, the look rubbish.

E92 was when bmw started doing various ‘frozen’ editions wasnt it?

They all look worse than normal shiny paint, we’re prone to marking and you couldn’t paint single panels or blend repairs so even a minor scrape would mean a minimum of one side of the car being painted, and most likely the whole car.

One good thing is that matt seems to have gone out of fashion.

That matte one on Collecting Cars commits the heinous sin of not just M-stripes on the grille, but a second set mirrored on the other kidney

JIC.

In general, that's about the worst looking E92 M3 I've ever seen.

Rich's on the other hand looks spot on.8-) Miss it?

Enough to buy it back if at some point in the future it came up for sale and you had the money?

I'm not that sentimental, it was a great daily drive and was the perfect one car solution for me for many years (taking over the place of the e46 M3 - 8 years of M3s), but there’s plenty of other cars to try.

I doubt there’s much short of proper exotica with an engine quite as unique/special though.

They've got a great motor and it was as fit as my mates 996 Turbo in a straight line.

Dynamically better in every way than the E46 but bizarrely not looked back on as affectionately as the earlier car.

Always thought it a bit weird how much criticism the engine got from the press for not being loud enough / torquey enough / sounding like a proper v8.

I always thought it suited the small sporty gt roll of an m3 perfectly.

I much prefer it as a package to the huge lump of barely tamed shoutiness in the v8 c-class’. They just seemed a bit too American for some reason and don’t really like the noise they make. I think that sort of lump is more suited to the 5 series / eclass size vehicle.

I think an e36 compact with s65 v8 would be my first lottery win project

Definitely not loud enough as std. Runs with Mr Pete Revsrus when I had the VXR8 proved this. Although it clearly made the quoted numbers. 8-)

Did the Growler have a factory type approved exhaust though Mik for fair comparison ?

No.

Oem exhaust on the VXR8 was literally a silencer.

So far from a fair comparison. But the only one I have....

I saw a silver one in Cardiff last summer and was surprised (pleasantly) on how noisy it was. First one I've seen in the flesh, they are massive.

Yeah - big saloons. I think maybe 1% retain the std exhaust.
