When I first saw it I thought it was a fuck you to the BMW M1. It’s the only other BMW I can think off with badging in that location?

M1 badges are on the rear not the sides...

Yep, I wonder if it’s because the small car segment is so generic that it’s purely there so most NCGs can tell what they’re looking at. See the picture in the 1 series thread with the side profile shots of everything looking pretty similar.

The X2 is one of the least offensive looking BMWs in the current lineup. Badges don't bother me at all either.

Saw my first F40 the other day and a McLaren of some sort. There's also an absolutely mint mk1 fiesta being driven by an old guy in the village. How it hasn't succumbed to road I don't know.
