Raising more taxes won't magically sort the issues we have. It may improve them, but it won't sort them. That's precisely because of the multitude of problems in delivering services. From wastage in the public sector, to private contracting of public services to the vast and inept, to the very basic fact that most public services have been underfunded and poorly managed for decades.

But you have to start somewhere I guess.

no, both parties backed themselves into a corner by saying they won't be raising the main taxes. Which is a bit daft, as judging by the last 5 years "shit happens", whether it's covid/ukraine/etc and the chances are they'll have to break that promise at some point and raise taxes.

Almost £3 trillion debt is the problem.
Still think investing in the petrochemical industry here is the only way to get out of that problem without 200 years of austerity but everyone has backed themselves into a on paper carbon neutral stance which is only accomplished by importing everything bad from third world shitholes when the reality is that we're still extremely dependent on it for another few decades.
Making lives for everyone difficult for no reason other than to tick a box.

No government has any intention of paying it off, the only reason it’s brought up is to justify more austerity.
