And I get that the Williams is slow, but Kubica is even slower than that. His lap times in the first half of the race were all over the place and he finished an entire lap behind his team mate.

Honestly, not sure any have the same layout. Don't think monza has changed since the 3 chicanes were added which was probably some time in the 80s, possibly São Paulo? I expect everywhere else has had at least a corner or two reprofiled.JLv3.0 wrote: Wed Mar 20, 2019 9:48 am Interesting - what circuits have not changed from 1992 to now, so we can compare?
1992 fastest laps
2018 because only one race in '19
Cheers, Harry
Re: No F1 thread?
Every time they resurface the tracks they iron out more of the bumps, give a bit more run off, remove some grass so I imagine over 30 years the same car would lap significantly faster now.
They used to qualify with fuel to start the race so would be a few seconds slower anyway. The fastest cars (v10) were neutered grooved tyres and width restrictions on the tyres. I reckon the fastest ever cars were from the 2005 season but they had one tyre for both qualifying and the race so couldn’t show it. I do wonder how they would do on decent tyres...

How about not having a sig at all?
Re: No F1 thread?
It really would be interesting to find out. For example, us old fuckers always think the old Group B warriors are still the fastest rally cars in the entire universe but a modern WRC would absolutely and completely hump them.

And the most stupid thing about that is that the 1992 would win!

Corker of a race, that. Gutted for LeClerc but never happier to see Vettel spinning.

Bottas back to wingman duty holding up Seb and being off the pace.
LeClerc will have his day. Seb has had his day.
Anyone else think Renault went to remotely kill Hulk’s engine but killed Ricciardos by mistake? Seems too much of a coincidence that his car just died seconds later.
Gasley is shit isn’t it?

Good race, I’m just glad Seb didn’t beat his team mate and yet another melt down from him. I’m going to stick my neck out and say it, LeClerk is doing to Vettel what Ricciardo did to Vettel just in another team.
I hope it’s another year for Lewis because I don’t want to see unattainable records set.

Fantastic race, I've felt since testing we were in for a great season, and it still looks that way. The midfield pack are so close that we're surely bound to see action at all but the worst circuits. Happy to see McLaren improving.
Shame for Leclerc, he did everything right this weekend (start aside). Also great to see all the front four fighting.
True to form, Vettel continues to show his mediocrity, and Hamilton continues to show how relentlessly brilliant he is... Leclerc is rightly getting a lot of plaudits but Hamilton really pushed them hard in an inferior car (this weekend) and made sure it was him there to benefit from anything that came his way.
Ferrari need to cut out all these errors and issues because Merc will give nothing away.
I do sense that it is slightly easier to follow under the new regs, not a silver bullet, but an improvement.

Best comment I heard was "well, one of the Ferrari drivers clearly looked like a rookie".NotoriousREV wrote: Sun Mar 31, 2019 6:02 pm Corker of a race, that. Gutted for LeClerc but never happier to see Vettel spinning.
Re: No F1 thread?
You want one of those magic bullets my friend. Silver bullets ain't goin get you nuffin... unless you're hunting werewolves.
Re: No F1 thread?
Because Vettel is a werewolf?
In googling this further I found that (as with many things), the confusion stems from the Americans and the Lone Ranger who used silver bullets and popularised the phrase outside the US. The term magic bullet for a single shot solution to a problem pre-dated Tonto and the Texas Ranger by a century or so.
Re: No F1 thread?
I'm not sure what you're trying to compensate for by having to correct everyone and be right about everything, but it's a phrase that I frequently encounter at work from various different people/organisations so I'm pretty sure I didn't make it up.
Wikipedia says as follows: "In folklore, a bullet cast from silver is often the only weapon that is effective against a werewolf, witch, or other monsters. The term is also a metaphor for a simple, seemingly magical, solution to a difficult problem"
Did you ever stop to think that maybe just because you heard it said a different way, doesn't mean it's not a phrase. I don't believe it's a legal term, so perhaps you are no more qualified than anyone else to comment.
Before you go all frothy at the crotch about using Wikipedia as a source, it's a turn of phrase, so perfectly adequate as justification that the above is a common usage.

Phrases don't have to be more than a century old to be understood outside legal circles BTW.GG. wrote: Mon Apr 01, 2019 6:16 pm The term magic bullet for a single shot solution to a problem pre-dated Tonto and the Texas Ranger by a century or so.

Re: No F1 thread?
I wasn’t saying it was made up - just an Americanism.
That said I did come across a guardian article criticising ‘silver bullet’ and now I don’t know what to believe
